What does this sentence mean?

"Finally, we entered the small dining room yards from the page's vestibule..."

very near or far?

Thanks

Gleb, do mean the distance? If so, a yard is 0.91 meters, so not very far.

Very close,  is how I read it. Insert "just a few meters from " for "yards from" and the meaning should be clear.
