There's quite a number of hours' worth of Romanov home movies at the Hoover Institution in the Hermann Axelbank Collection.

They like it best if you make an appointment with their film specialist to see them (it used to be a man called Remy -- I don't know if he's still there).  You can also buy copies...

ooh, cool. were can yo buy copies? im sure they are a bundle$$$ to buy! :o

(i.e. one of Olga and Tatiana at maybe around 12 and 10 years old, respectively, curtseying to officers and then running off), the adolescent Grand Duchesses boarding a small boat, etc. Does anyone recall other examples?

It means, Olga is around 12 years old, and Tatiana is around 10.

FA.. Was the Quicktime movies ever made to share?
I personally have been trying to make as much of my Romaonv video collection into .avi or .mpeg on the computer. If I get a decent # done I'll donate all of them to the APTM.

It means each, in the order given. As the FA explained, "Olga and Tatiana were 12 and 10 years old, respectively" means Olga was 12 years old and Tatiana was 10 years old. It's a shorter way of saying this.

Early in the 1990s I saw a documentary film which was called in my language something like The dreams of the White duchesses. It was a collection of (for me) rare film pieces as well as those often seen public ones, and photographes, then new (the archives were just opened after Soviet collapsed). It was like a silent film, the pictures of those young girls were accompanied by just some strange but suitable (electronic?) music made especially for it.
I remember the film as a really esthetic experience.  The last days of the forever disappearing black and white world without the coldness, loneliness and emptyness of the modernity...

Rosebud >> Do you have a copy of "The dreams of the White duchesses" It would be something to see.

Also, an interesting note. Those IMDB links have Maria's death date a day before the rest of the family  :P

Laura,
My version of that film is badly ruined because of my teenage enthusiasm (Im really sad about that), but I will search after it from the internet or elsewhere. It was directed or compiled by a male russian and the music was perhaps his too. Hmmmm, maybe I should try if the VHS still works and take the names up.
Yes, Im going to do that.

Good morning Laura,
there is a little information about the film (and how to get it) here
http://www.yle.fi/export/ever_doc.htm

I dont think it includes anything you havent seen before, but the compilation is worth while seeing. I remembered wrongly, there is a narrator. It is made to resemble silent films visually though.
