Well, I'm half way through and yes he does try and over explain the political background to this family . K-Stefan is cast as a Prince who looks into the future and considers the rise of nationalism within the multicultural mix of Austro-Hungary.
He imagines the reunion of Poland and sets out to offer himself to that cause as a possible future King. He moves to his Galician estate at Zywiec, educates his children as Poles and allows his daughters to marry into Polish princely houses.
Kloss ' hard not to like" was the captain of her fathers yacht..and the marriage was regarded as unequal as her sisters by Vienna ( which did not recognise the Polish titles).
Interesting that the Habsburgs annexed Bosnia in July 1908.....and it still goes on

Children of Archduke Karl Stephan:

Eleanora Maria (1886–1974)
Renata Maria (1888–1935)
Karl Albrecht (1888–1951), Prinz von Altenburg
Mechthildis Maria Christina (1891–1966)
Leo Karl (1893–1939)
Wilhelm(1895–1948)

Some photos on this Habsburg branch.  Probably some of them are quite well-khown for “experts” but not for everyone who come here for info and images.

Archduke Karl Stephan and his wife Maria Theresia. The best image of them I’ve ever seen

Their family (except Renata who had married)

I should say Eleanora doesn’t look happy, not like a girl who marries for love. Von Kloss looks more radiant.

Beautiful Alice, spouse of eldest Karl Stephan’s son – Karl Albrecht.  She was Swedish by birth but Polish by heart and soul.

Here she is stil Alice Badeni, by her 1st marriage to Count Ludwik Badeni.

No...me neither but I know they had children. The couple and children moved to Brazil later on and I think Reneta died there.  ???

No. Renata died in Poland in 1935. It was he sister Mechtildis who fled to Brazil during WW II with her family. While travelling through Germany on her Polish passport  she was stopped by a German policeman. “Habsburg?” he asked, noticing her maiden name. “That sounds Jewish”.

Renata's husband prince Hieronim Radziwill died in a soviet camp Alczewskoje in April 1945 (he was father of Dominik Radziwill) . Do you know where can I find more information about his death?

I don't know if this was the Prince Radziwill referred to:

" Wiesenthal arrived there on the frozen night of February 15, 1945. In The Murderers Among Us, he tells how he and a fellow prisoner, Prince Radziwill, linked arms to make the last four miles uphill to the camp. The effort was too great and they collapsed in the snow. An SS man fired a shot that landed between them. As the two men did not get up, they were left for dead in the sub-zero temperature. When lorries arrived to collect those who had died on the march, the unconscious Wiesenthal and Radziwill were so frozen that they were thrown onto a pile of corpses. At the crematorium, however, the prisoners unloading them realised they were alive. They were given a cold shower to thaw out and Wiesenthal was taken to Block VI, the “death block” for the mortally ill."

Thank you Grandduchessella :) but tht's not Hieronim Radziwill :(. Wiesenthal was in a Nazi camp (Mauthausen) and Prince Hieronim died in a Soviet camp somewhere in Russia (?).

Oh, okay. I couldn't find any further info on which Prince Radziwill it was. I had thought maybe he ended up in a Soviet labour camp afterwards and that it could still be him. If it wasn't, the Radziwills sure had an unfortunate time of it. One of the wives perished in a labour camp as well--Stanislaus's mother.

This was pretty much the rest of what I found: "Her husband outlived her for ten years. Prince Jerome remarried. Towards the end of World War II, Prince Jerome was captured by Russian troops and he was taken behind the Iron Curtain. He died in a concentration camp in May 1945. The Radziwill properties were all lost."

I have seen the remarriage listed on Polish sites but not some other English-language sites. It seems the large part of those in the labour camps perished from malnutrition, lack of medical attention and starvation.

Radziwill's former estate in Balice near Krakow (prince Dominic was born there) is now a wedding venue. Looks very romantic IMO
