Quite an evocative montage! Belochka approves. :)

But have the grand princes faded from the scene?  ???

I understand she did lose the grand prince/princess bit for her book on royal nannies, so maybe there's hope?  ;)

Yes indeed we can only hope that she will do the correct thing ...  ???

Russian Grand Dukes are Grand Dukes and Russian Grand Duchesses are Grand Duchesses.

There's a great little story about 'princess' vs. 'duchess' in The Last Grand Duchess. Near the end of Olga Aleksandrovna's life, a little girl in Canada asked her if she was a princess. GD Olga firmly replied, "No, I am a Russian grand duchess."

If 'grand duchess' is good enough for Olga A, it's good enough for me -- I figure she ought to know!  ;)

Obviously Ms Zeepvat should respectfully heed Grand Duchess Olga's words!

This is my favorite book on the Romanovs. I thought it was very unique when I first read it.

I finally got ahold of this book through interlibrary loan after years of wanting to read it. It is unique in my opinion, but I was kind of disapointed. I like the last chapter about Alexei alot, but the rest wasn't written in a style I liked. It's kind of boring if you have already read extensively on the Romanovs, although there is much coverage in this book of non OTMAA Romanovs, if you want to learn about them. I learned much that was new about Prince Ioann Konstatinovitch's wife- I didn't know any of it. Also, you learn alot about the Romanovs palaces. This is info I hadn't read before all in one place at least that I recall. There's much hard to find info in this book, that's for sure. It's sad this book isn't more widely available.

I see this thread has  been going on for a few years now, but I had to add; "I LOVE THIS BOOK!"  It draws a beautiful picture of the family as a whole....aunts, uncles, cousins...the ups and downs that makes each family unique.  It has also helped me keep the different people/branches of the family straight....it "fleshes out" the people behind the history.  I borrowed it from our local library and only after returning it did I discover how difficult it is to get.  Hmmmm....maybe I'll have to pay the fine for a "lost book".
