Tampa Bay,
Wishful thinking I would guess since it took Beatrice at least 6 months to convince her mother to let her marry Liko.

Think she just liked the look of them, and QV always liked their mother.

Didn't mean to insinuate about a prospective match from childhood.  I was only saying that QV knew Liko way before VMH married his over brother.  Beatrice alos must have know Liko before VHM's wedding also.  I did not realize they were aquainted from childhood; VMH & Louis yes becuase they were cousins but not Beatrice & Liko.

Also, Louis hanging around London alot before his marriage...very good friends with Bertie and Alix, and had a room at Marlborough House.  However, when he had dinner with QV, she did her best to keep him away from Beatrice.  She was worried about handsome Battenbergs and her Benjamina.

Are you referring to Louis or Liko Battenberg?

Marie and her sister-in-law, Princess Beatrice, became good friends after Beatrice's marriage to Henry of Battenberg.  They wrote each other freqently and were close until Marie's death in the 1920s.  Beatrice survived her by about 20 years.

Marie's beloved home Schönberg Castle is an idyllic place on top of a hill - an ancient edifice dating from the 13th century. It remained undestroyed during the War and is exactly as she describes it in her memoirs.
Though they family sold it some decades ago and though it houses a community now there are still some wonderful portraits and other items belonging to the Erbach's.
In the park is a tree lanted by Queen Victoria in memory of one of her ancestors - Graf zu Erbach Schönberg

Here are two pictures of Marie and members of her family. I had posted them in the thread "The British Battenbers/Mountbattens", too.

Marie with her daughter Edda (full name: Marie Elizabeth; b. 1883 d.1966)

This picture was shot a day after Edda's wedding with Friedrich-Wilhelm of Stolberg-Wernigerode in 1910. It shows from left to right: Marie, Edda, Friedrich-Wilhelm of Stolberg-Wernigerode (1870-1931), behind him Marie's eldest son Alexander (1872-1944) and Elizabeth, Alexander's wife. She was a born Princess of Waldeck and Pyrmont and related to Emma Queen of the Netherlands and Helen Duchess of Albany.

Edda's name was actually Elisabeth Donata - Elisabeth after the mothers grand-cousin, Grand Duchess Ella of Russia and Donata for the "present" of a daughter after 4 sons!

Actually it is from the same sitting -

Marie was indeed a very beautiful lady with a striking resemblance to her mother.
