Auction:Queen Juliana & Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands
« Reply #90 on: December 01, 2010, 01:00:30 AM »
The Dutch RF will take over 10.000 pieces once belonging to Queen Juliana to auction in march 2011.
Ranging from glas -and silverware to paintings and furniture etc etc,her daughters have decided to have it all auctioned off.

The proceedings of the auction go to charities choosen by each of the four daughters of the late Queen.

Queen Beatrix has decided her part of the proceedings will go to the Princess Beatrix Fund for Research on Muscle Diseases,
Princess Margriets part will go to the Red Cross,Princess Christina will donate hers to the Princess Christina Concours of Music
and Princess Irene will give her part to the Nature College,a non-profit organisation founded by the Princess.

It's not for the Royal Family to decide what they bring to the market, that's all understrict rules and laws.
Gifts of State, official gifts are exempt of the auction as they go to the Official Gifts to the House of Orange Nassau Foundation,
Objects and collections in relation to the historical value and history of the House went to the Historical Collections of the House
of Orange Nassau. Also National Museum Het Loo Palace has made their choice of all artifacts as had the Institute for the National
Collection of The Netherlands. And many artifacts did find their way to hte children and grandchildren of the late Queen too ofcourse.

What is left are still the over 10.000 pieces that will be auctioned by Sotheby's Amsterdam, ranging from something simple for
5 euro up to 50.000,the whole auction is expected to fetch 1.5 million euro but that is putely based on the value of each object,
not the emotional or the historical value.

The catalogue is due for february, the show days are on march 8th through the 13th.
The auction itself will take 4 days, march 14th,15th,16th and 17th 2011 in what Sotheby's has placed under 1500 auction lots
ranging from a simple milk can with the monogram"E "for Emma to silverware and more chairs you can sit on,silver cutlery etc etc.

The proceeds of the catalogue will also go to the charities HM and TRH have choosen.
I hope for an immense succes!!

It's a good idea to clean out those dusty old attics.  What item do you like?  Myself?  I can't decide...maybe the silver asparagus tongs or the grape scissors.

So it was you who fetched the rare 260 piece porcelain service then too?. 8) ;D..

The first day,213 lots on the go,ao a rare 260 piece porcelain service,6 christal karafs and a medal dating from 1516.
It all went for a staggering 1.6 million euro ( $ 2.8 millon). The total Sotheby estimate for the whole auction alone was 1.5
so I think I will be right in assuming the auction goes 3 to 5 times over the top. There were not only "local" bidders as there
was a huge interest of bidders from Asia and North- and South America.Fantastic.

Still over 1700 lots to go.The revenues will go to charities choosen by the four daughters of the late Queen Juliana.

Well Lucien, I looked through the catalog of her old things and I really already have everything she had.  I have old silver, old dishes and old junk.  I listed above the two items that will complete my collection.  Do you have asparagus tongs?  No house is complete without them.  I didn't notice any silver moeren crackers....did you?

At least after all of HRH's stuff is cleared out, the new royal kids can occupy her antique schloss without all that old junk filling the place.  They can fill it with new Ikea items.  So lovely.

The auction closed yesterday and the total sum of the proceeds was raised to euro 6.979.286 million
which is aprox. $ 9.782.000,over 5 times the estimate.

Halve of it goes to the Red Cross in honour of the late Queen Juliana's work and interest in that organisation,
the other halve will be divided by the four charities her daughters have choosen.
