Actually, Mickey spent the vast majority of his career on the big screen.
(Most all the short cartoons you see him in on TV today were made between 1928 and 1960, and shown in theaters before the feature film.) But cartoons in general were not around during most of Alexei's life. The first animated character, Gertie the Dinosaur, premiered in 1917, I believe.
