You're very welcome! I want to let us all know what the letter tells so I translated it even if it's just thru the help of Google ^^

You're right! All of them were simple; it just happened that they are Romanovs so they have to live in their palaces and have the luxuries they had before their captivity. They were even more frugal than other aristocratic families in Russia ~ It was so unfair of people to judge them right away :'( Just because they isolated themselves, other people already thought they were wasting the peasants' labors? Have they asked about the lives of other Russian officials?
If only Lenin and his comrades were able to know this, they would have not murdered them :'(

Amazing colored fotos  by the most wonderful Yelena Aleksandrovna. Endless thank you very much!

Lenin and his band of thugs wouldn't have cared less either way.  They wanted all the Romanovs dead, no matter who they were.

You're all very welcome! I like to translate their letters for us all to read : )

Tatiana to Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna
December 5, 1915
(edit:  LOL, I just noticed that it is December 5 today - this letter has been written 98 years ago : ))

"Poor Sonia was buried today. Mitia and Vera Orbeliani have just arrived, poor ones. There were a lot of people. It happened all of a sudden and she was taken too awfully soon - in only two days. Mama was with her all the time. She was almost unconscious, and couldn't even speak or open her eyes. However, everytime Mama called on her, she blinked her eyes, letting us know that she could still hear but could not talk.
Her aunts were here, too., and came to her every hour. Her face had changed and turned so yellow. The priest gave her the last unction, and while she was slowly getting nearer her end, he gently read the prayer for the dying. She was buried here in the Kazan cemetery.
I had just one lesson today.  We have everything working well in the hospital..."

(source is the link with her wartime letters I have posted before; unforturnately, that link doesn't work anymore.)

Sonia O has an entry in the "Friends, Servants, Retainers" board here as well as one among the "Biographies" sections of the main AP website. I urge you to read one or both. Sonia was a very dear friend of Alexandra  ans quite a remarkable person in her own right. Her loss was a real blow to Alexandra and the rest of theIF.

I started doing some more research after reading through her biography and came across some rumours that I asked about in her topic. Thanks for helping me out, Rodney and GPss Shandroise.

I recently re-read the letter excerpts posted (in a pdf) by Inok Nikolai and I noticed that Tatiana is the one among the siblings who used (imo) inelegant words often. I find it amusing as it shows a less-known side of her : )

Aug. 29, 1915
Konkov cussed that idiot out as he walked past him, but he just halted and said: “Why curse at me?” — and then rode off down the road. He didn't even think to hold the horses for Mama. The blockhead!...

Nov. 26, 1915
…Yesterday we went for a walk with Iza [Sophia Buxhoeveden, their governess] in Pavlovsk, and we were surprised that we met so few other people. It turned out that far ahead of us and behind us went the “yellow men” [the Imperial family’s disparaging nickname for their secret police guards] who were directing everyone else to go in the other direction, saying: “The Grand Duchesses are out for a walk; do not hinder them from going there.” Really, what idiots! They always like to try too hard.

Sept. 15, 1916
…Right now the hairdresser is curling Maria’s hair, then it will be my turn — for the Japanese. The talk in town [Petrograd] is that I am going to marry him. They forget that he already has a wife, and that he is a pagan. Rather stupid of them.

Wonderful! Having Olga's diaries from 1914-1917 is a great privilege and I would love to see the same thing happen for TMA. Any diaries available to us - I want!

Thanks for sharing!

Blockhead!?

When I hear that, I keep seeing Lucy Van Pelt insulting her brother, Linus, or Charlie Brown!
