Was this book published with two different covers, or are they two different books with the same title?

This latter has the same description that Robert Wisener posted....

I bought this in Edinburgh at the exhibition. It is very well produced, with loads of colour and b&w illustrations, and chapters by Russian experts from the Hermitage (Nina Tarasova,Galina Printseva, Y.V. Plotnikova and Augusta Pobedinskaya) on many aspects of the last years of Romanov rule. The exhibition itself was fantastic, with room after room filled with portraits, uniforms, swords, dresses, porcelain, books, medals, coins, wonderful Faberge pieces, icons, furniture. My favourite room was called 'We Seven' and had hundreds of framed photos of the family members on the walls (mostly from Beinecke collection), as well as items from the  imperial wardrobes, nurseries, etc. Many of these are reproduced in the book, which cost GB£19.99. I would think the Museum still has copies. Address : Royal Museum, Chambers St., Edinburgh EH1 1JF. Tel : 0131 247 4422. E-mail : info@nms.ac.uk. They also sold posters, postcards etc to accompany the exhibition. It closed on October 30th.

I got it ordered for Christmas.  It sounded like a wonderful exhibit.  (Too bad I'll be like a year and a half late in visiting Edinburgh.  Haha.)

Judging by the page count, I believe they're different. I have the first book, and it's over 400 pages. I've never seen the second one, but it's listed at only 111 pages. In your shoes, I'd send Laura Mabee a PM to make sure -- she has both books. (She's in Russia, though, so it might take her a few days to respond.) Incidentally, I've seen used copies of the first book go for as little as $2.50.

Nice avatar by the way.

Thank You. =) I think you're right. I hadn't looked at the page count for some reason.

I did manage to find the more expensive (and larger) book for much less than that original link.

Thank you again. =)

And I'm glad you like my avatar! =D

the first book is the exhibition catalog for the massive exhibit that was in Wilmington, Delaware, some years ago.   The other is a catalog, as well, but not for Delaware -- and not for an earlier one in Jackson, Mississippi, as I have that catalog as well

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if these two books were the same book? Or if they are different.

This book accompanies the exhibition in the newly-opened Hermitage Amsterdam.
First some facts about this book:

title: At the Russian court - Palace and protocol in the nineteenth century
available in Dutch and English
336 pages
about 300 black/white and full-colour illustrations

The book consists of four main articles and twelve shorter essays. The titles of the four main articles are:
- From Paul I to Nicholas II
- Official ceremonies at the Russian court
- Celebrations at the Russian court
- St. Petersburg, capital of the Russian empire

The twelve shorter articles:
- Dinners at the Russian imperial court
- Theatre and music at the court
- The church and the court
- Galacostumes and the court
- Ladies' fashions
- Treasures at the Russian court
- The Chinese masquerade
- Playing cards in Russian court life
- 'Waaier' is a Dutch word
- The tsars' children
- Hunting at the imperial court
- The Russian guards at the court
There is also a family-tree of the Romanovs and a bibliography.

Last Friday I bought the book in Dutch and it is really stunning. Besides, the text is very readable and informative. The pictures are also magnificent and the lay-out is very well-done. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I do !

I will second Luc's endorsement. This is the best museum catalogue I have seen in a very long time. A word of warning. however- it is not cheap, I forget exactly but I think about 40 euros. And, it is very heavy. Ordering by mail  will  also be costly. I carried my copy back but almost wish I had posted it [and I had originally planned to buy 2 or 3 copies! and watch the excess baggage charge skyrocket!].
If you cannot make it to the exhibition itself, this is an eminently worthy substitute.

Robert,

I found a paperback edition online. Do you know if there is a hardback copy online anywhere?

I did not see any at the museum itself. I looked for one, but did not ask.
