Books on the Balkan Royals
« on: October 28, 2005, 09:14:48 AM »
I recently took out "The Story of My Life" by Queen Marie of Romania. But the book starts mid-life. There was nothing about her childhood, early marriage, etc. Was there 2 volumes to this book? If there is I want to get that one too.
Thanks!
Angie

YES!  The original book was two volumes.  There is a new edition on sale on amazon.com which contains exerts from her diaries not published in the first two volumes.

Marie's book was published differently in Europe & USA.

I believe the Europe edition had three volumes and the USA Edition had two voulmes but I may be mistaken!

It's a really good book and, yes, it does take the form of a large, coffe-table size photo album. It has just tons of great photos. The publisher, Leppi, also did Romanovs: Love, Power and Tragedy, so if you've seen that one you know what the Nikola & Milena book looks like. It's has glossy pages, all with photos on them and the text isn't straight biographical, it's more like individual essays that trace the family and Nikola's reign. There are sections on each of their children, though a disappointingly small amount on Anna, who married Franz Joseph of Battenberg. The subtitle given on the cover says "The Rise and Fall of Montengro's Royal Family told through Family Albums and Diaries". It's a little less than 350 pages.

The ISBN (for anyone interested) is 0952164442.
