Ich aber breite trauernd aus
die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

No, I've never been to Wiesbaden. I found this picture in one of my books.

Thanks very much, Marie-Charlotte! Never seen a picture of the grave of Princess Louise before.
Are you really sure it still exists? Believe the grave has been disposed decades ago.

Well, I've never stood in front of Louise's grave, but I have at least two books where you can see a picture of it. So I thought this grave would still exist.

Do you think that there is no one of the family left who would pay for it as Louise lived such a scandalous life?

When Princess Louise died in 1924, she was almost forgotten and her daughter Duchess Dora of Schleswig-Holstein was short of money. The funeral was a lower class one.
Both her children Leopold and Dora, like her ex-husband Prince Philipp were buried in the catholic Kohary Gruft in Coburg. Really impressive burial chapel.

Could you mention titles & authors of the two books, please?

Oh, how wonderful to talk to two Erics. So I can't mix you up. Hehe.  ;D

The picture of Louise's grave I have posted is from Habsburg Intim by Chris Stadtlaender. This book contains many rare pictures, but you shouldn't believe in every word the author writes.
I've seen another picture of her grave in one of my other books, but at the moment I don't know in which one. I stood in front of my shelf and thought about it, but I have definitely too many books to find the right one quickly. As soon as I am successful, I will tell you.  ;)

I also heard that Dora didn't have much money. Obviously even her funeral and her tomb were paid by Albert von Thurn und Taxis. Is the Coburg burial place open to the public?

Thank you very much, Marie-Charlotte.

Dora indeed didn't have much money and she received a pension and an apartment in Castle Taxis from the Thurn und Taxis family.

The Kohary Gruft in the St. Augustin church in Coburg is only to visit if you ask for the key to open it at the priest's house next door.
The tomb of Prince August Viktor of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and his spouse Princess Clémentine, née Princess of Orléans, is very impressive.

Thanks for alle these information.  ;)

I've seen a picture of the tomb of August and Clémentine in a book about the city of Coburg. As far as I remember, the inscription dedicated to Clémentine says something like "She was the daughter of a king, mother of a king, but not a queen herself". Is this true?

Yes, Princess Clémentine was the daughter of King Louis-Philippe I of France. Her youngest son Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha became King Ferdinand of the Bulgarians.
She was even the sister of a queen: Queen Louise-Marie of the Belgians. From the three sisters Louise-Marie and Marie, Clémentine was the most regal one.

Thanks. I know that she was Louis Philippe's daughter and Ferdinand's mother, of course, but I was wondering about this inscription. It doesn't sound that common to me.  ::)
