This is truly an excellent publication and more thorough than Hall's book. I would strongly recommend it. I bought my copy in Copenhagen at Amalienborg but they also sell to overseas customers. Just contact them. They are most obliging. They do credit card sales.

Coryne Hall's book is not bad. I must admit I found this one really excellent as it is extremely well researched and has marvellous photos and background information.

Empress Maria Feodorovna's Favorite Residences in Russia and in Denmark by Galina Kornova and Tatiana Cheboksarovna - published by Liki Rossii, Saint Petersburg, 2006

It is so hard to put down.

"Little mother of Russia" is a good book. There is also a good biography of Maria in Russian by Yu.Kudrina.

"Little Mother of Russia" is not that great IMHO, especially where the author incorrectly emphasized that AIII was an alcoholic. AIII's death scene is also far less than accurate.  >:(

Yuliya Kudrina's large book is visually very appealing. However IMHO the one written by Elena Khorvatova that was published around the same time in 2006 is more informative as a biographic study. There is less attention placed to the decorative presentation of each page when compared to the one offered by Kudrina.

Both these Russian books are a pleasure to own.

IMO the Khorvatova book is the best bio on Maria Fedorovna, as the author analyzes the character of the Empress from various points of view, I mean this bio is not the song of  praise but a critical research.

Maria Feodorovna Empress of Russia published in 1997 is available through the Amalienborg Palace Bookshop in Copenhagen. Write to them and I am sure they will sort out something for you. It is much better than Little Mother of Russia and has many interesting chapters. I bought my copy in Copenhagen. It has many black and white and colour photos of all things related to Maria Feodorovna. For those interested in jewels and clothing it is superb.

Dear all
I am posting this here, and have made the same post under "Books", in case people miss this section.

Frances Welch, author of "The Romanovs and Mr Gibbes" and of "A Romanov Fantasy: life at the Court of Anna Anderson" is now researching a book on the voyage of H.M.S. Marlborough from Yalta to Malta in 1919.

If there is anyone in this forum who has an interest in this topic - ranging from ancestors in some way involved in the voyage to contacts with others whose families played a part - and is willing to talk to Frances, please send me a PM with your contact details, and I will pass them on.

With many thanks

Janet
