The second son of the duchesse de Montpensier, Marie-Thérèse de Wurtemberg, and the Comte de Paris, Henri d’Orléans has announced on the  28th of november 2008, his engagement to Doña Philomena de Tornos y Steinhart.

Doña Philomena de Tornos y Steinhart is the grand-daughter of Juan de Tornos y Espeliú, the former private secretary of the late Count of Barcelona, the Infante Juan of Spain, who  is the father of King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

It is the second engagement of Jean d’Orléans, since in 2001 his engagement to Tatjana d’ Oldenbourg, a German aristocrat Duchess, had been cancelled supposedly because of her religion six months after the announcement.

Due to the handicap of his elder brother, François d’Orléans, the Duc de Vendôme is considered by the Orléanistes as the heir to the throne of France

I was there myself yesterday afternoon. It took quite a while for the bride, groom & guests to come out of the townhall but I had a lovely time with fellow royalists under a dazzling sun meanwhile.

Agneschen - are you back?  :-) :-) :-)
Ich aber breite trauernd aus
die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

I am indeed dear Marie !!

To go back to the civil wedding of Duke Jean, the bride had hardly left her car that photographers jumped on her in a most undignified way and she had almost trouble getting her way to the townhall. Impossible for us simple mortals to take a pic. It was pretty difficult photographing her when she left the townhall as well as her car drove through the people to pick her up right under the steps (and almost ran on my feet). Photographing the groom and the guest was pretty easy, they all look happy and smiling. The Duke of Orléans was the first to leave and did so on his bicycle under the photographers' surprised eyes ! A TV team was also there and filmed a few of us (they tried to ask me a few questions but I begin hiding behind my hair and replied in a very short manner as I hate being filmed - hope they will cut me !!). We were about 20 to 25 eagerly awaiting our Dauphin and his bride.
I am planning to go to Senlis on May 2 for the religious wedding.  I will do my best to bring back pics.

I know, thanks Lucien...but at the beginning we didn't know she was even noble...now we know that she is noble from both sides of her parents...and even related to her future husband...

More pics from the civil wedding to be found at http://www.sipausa.com/ximagi/search.php?sort=celeb&assignment_id=4571#page=0&view=gallery&key=

Pics of the engaged couple and their respective families can also be found at :http://www.picturedesk.com/ (type "Philomena de Tornos" in the search field).
They were taken last Christmas in Vienna. I believe they are the first pictures I have ever seen of Eudes & Marie Liesse of Angoulème's children, Pierre & Thérèse (both seem to have inherited the famous Orléans blue eyes). Pics of Prince François & Princess Blanche, who are both handicapped, are also rare.

Pictures of the bride, groom & guests to be found at : http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?contractUrl=2&language=en-US&family=editorial&assetType=image&p=philomena%20tornos&src=standard#

Sadly the groom's mother Marie Thérèse, Duchess of Montpensier, was unable to attend as she has been admited to hospital yesterday. Her condition is reported not to be serious but how sad it must have been for her to miss her son's wedding. Prince Jean entered the church with his maternal aunt Marie Christine Liechenstein.

The bridal dress is a creation of French fashion designer Christian Lacroix. The turquoise tiara & the veil belong to the bride's family. I personally do not quite like her dress & tiara : not the best combination of colors I have seen ... the flower embroidered bolero is very lovely though.
