What is the best book to find formal photos in, because I love the formal photos, and would just like to know the best book to find ones from 1913/1914, and earlier. It would me so much to me to which book, because I don't own that many Romanov photo books, and then I would know what to buy. Thanks!

I estimate that about 3/4 of the photos in The Camera and the Tsars, by Charlotte Zeepvat, are formal. However, I just had a *quick* look through it, and found only about half a dozen of OTMAA from the 1914 sittings, and just one from 1913. The book focuses on the entire Romanov family from the mid 1850's on, so if you're most interested in OTMA, it may not be the best book for you.

Love, Power and Tragedy is a wonderful book -- much more reasonably priced than Prince Michael of Greece's book. LPT is stuffed with photos, both formal and informal, as well as pictures of letters, diaries, artwork, and so on. The main focus is NAOTMAA. I recommend it highly!

thanks i'm so buying that book! i adore reading their diary... but i do think that is a vidal space of pivacy. do you think OTMA would want that? but to bad.

Yes, it kind of is an invasion of privacy, but look at it this way... if we did not have access to their diaries, we would not know very much about them and would likely regard them as stuck-up princesses. Much of what we learn of people/cultures in the past is through their diaries and other writings. If we didn't have that, all we would know of life is what we experience ourselves and from what our family experiences.
