Does anyone know what happened with this pearls tiara? It was inherited from her mother and latter by Elisabeta. And then?

Either sold by Elisabetta or confiscated by the Communists.

There was already a thread on Balkan royal jewels so I have merged the 2. As always, please remember to do a search before starting a new thread. The mods work very hard to keep the Forum manageable--and this sub-forum is only 3 pages long, not much to search.

Missy purchased the sapphires because she had lost almost all her jewelry in Russia where it had, ironically, been sent for safekeeping in 1916. Post-war, despite repeated diplomatic demands, it all just disappeared. QM was devastated and wrote to a friend that her jewels had been part of her dowry and 'my father died in debt. These jewels were all I had'.

It's interesting that Queen Marie wrote her father died in debt. I wouldn't have thought that. Besides Marie Coburg could surely have prevented this with her huge dowry & allowance! And the rest!

I think Affie died without reconciled with his wife Marie. He blamed her for the death of their only son young Affie and the couple began to drift apart. I think QV would have paid for her son's debts.

Were both of them called Affie?

Yes. Family nicknames of course and not formal names as both were named "Alfred".

That is right Marc! Queen Victoria in her letters referred to her son as Affie and grandson as Alfred.

Yes. He was referred to "Young Affie" in others.

I really like most of the ones posted by Alejandro Spain, but most of them aren't really my taste.

The emerald parure of Mignon used to belong to Ella, and nobody could doubt her taste in jewels.
