There was some talk recently about her being unable/unwilling to cough up for son Peter's wedding, hence the 'Hello' deal - might she just be skint?  (Why am I using this argument - we know that it doesn't cost a fortune to look well-turned out if you have the nouse to do it....she has no taste at all)

Thank you for a good laugh today.   ;) I have found myself wondering and offering the same argument only to realize I've worked myself into a corner. I'm afraid its not money..but whatever Princess Anne sees when she looks in the mirror for the "fried egg" outfit is not the same as ...well, the rest of us. Loved that description so I've borrowed it.

I wonder how old that outfit is.........if I was being kind I would say that it is ageless, classic, period-defying - but I'm not and it's none of those.

It's just more 'Fugliness'...........

She doesn't have to wear terribly outdated clothes which are over 25 years old to avoid any criticism of wasting public money!  Everyone knows she's not interested in clothes or fashion but she does have a public role to dress for and I think if she bought a few classic 'mix and match' pieces in day wear and a handful of evening dresses every five years and ditched all her old stuff, nobody would care if those clothes were worn repeatedly.  She just doesn't have to look THIS bad...and the hair...just so terribly unflattering.  It's a wonder her daughter hasn't got to it!

But she is not going to change sadly. I agree Anne could look much better turned out than she does at times. But is she is happy that is I suppose all the counts.

Frugal is not a word that is part of the Royal Families vocabulary.

PA may wear 25 year old outfits but when it comes to her LIFESTYLE, ie Equestrian, Large Estate in Glos, travel around the globe, the word "Frugal" is not on the agenda.

Have you seen the Olympic pictures of Anne? Would it really hurt her to show a little respect for both herself and the athletes by throwing on a tiara and a decent dress?  Considering how well put together the Queen always is, one would assume she is mortified by Anne's awful appearance.

I too was shocked when I saw her awarding medals to athletes wearing a bucket hat, a bucket hat I tell you! Oh my goodness how rude. She obviously couldn't care less about her appearance. It's an honor to award Olympic medals to athletes and to approach it in such a way that Princess Anne did was disgraceful.

I quite agree Windsor! She does look shabby. She is Princess Royal and she really aught to dress like it. She needs to employ the services of a good ladies maid.

Lovely thought but unlikely.

Joan has a point.  Clothes may be one luxury that Anne feels that she can do without, but her lifestyle is extravagant and it doesn't come cheap.....
