Sophie Wessex is not overweight.  She has quite a good shape, in fact.

This is not the issue as to why she doesn't look well presented at times.  It's her fashion choices.

Then my reply to that TB, is she needs to trot off to some designer who can conceal those "love handles" I can't imagine that we want to see her with her ribs showing a la some of the so called "celebs" we have. I have several love handles on each side and on top of one another, I know how to dress and " conceal" 'em to some extent...Heels help ;) Hehehe Lurve handles ::)
Ahh, the "hurly-burly of the chaise longue" ;D

Kimberly, I agree 100% with all you have said.  A good stylist or designer could take care of the problem with the correct cut of clothes!

Martyn?  Aren't you getting enough sleep or something?

Yes, her style is rubbish!  No one has slammed her fashions and her look more on these threads than me!

What I'm saying is that she is a woman who has all the basics to just look soo good.

She has a slim, well proportioned figure, a pleasant face and looks good age-wise for 55 years old.

We know she'll never update in any way but it's fun to imagine what she'd be like if she did.

Here! Here! Right Honoranable Lady of the Opposition!

Thank you for expounding on my point of view!

Which do not compliment her body shape and make her look heavy/matronly.  Soooo then, change your style or lose weight.

Footnote:  I am operating under the assumption that Sophie is not expecting her second child.

Grace, as you are expecting a favour from me, you should really exercise a little more caution...... ;)

I don't think that weight is the issue with Sophie Wessex either, just for the record, but we do live in an age which is obsessed with it, both for men and women....

I have to agree with Mrs Eddy, in her assertion that after Alix, there hasn't really been too much in the family to emulate, fashion-wise.....

May's style was monumental and imperial, and developed over decades, the QM's was simply....(words fail me)....and the Queen, although well presented in her youth, foundered in mid-life, but has latterly achieved a smart concise look which is appropriate to her status and age.....However the style gene is perhaps not swimming around in that particular pool....

All the best dressed Windsor women have been imports.....(with the possible exception of Pcss Alexandra - with her it came from her mother - another import....)  ;)

All good points Martyn.  :)  QM definitely had style but it was unique to her and should not be emulated as Anne seems to be doing--that is not changing fashions for decades. QM was always well-tailored and had properly accessorized.

As you say, with the Queen Mother, what is there to say? As well as smiling more, I think EII's fashion renaissance dates from the time of her mother's passing as well. Coincidence? I think not.  :) EII was quite frumpy in middle age but now she looks wonderful more often than not and I love the colors she's been wearing. She looks good in both pastels and bright jewel tones.

Anne looks lovely in the "mink and diamonds" photo.  The ones of her at 19 show she was pretty.  But she just seemed to have stopped caring.  Caroline of Monaco must be around the same age and, ok is still drop dead gorgeous - but can you see her coming out in sensible shoes, 20 year old dresses, no makeup and a permanently sour expression?  No, you won't - and you wouldn't have seen Princess Grace look like that either.  The foreign princesses Maxima, Mary, Alexandra, Letizia, Madeleine and Victoria dress appropriately for their age; but the also LISTEN to what people say.  Some of Mary's outfits are classics and will probably be seen again - but they won't be accessorised with clumpy court shoes and a patent leather bag.

And her is my 2p worth - Sophie Wessex does NOT need to lose weight.  She needs to buy clothes that fit her in the first place and stop wearing such pale colours that make her look dumpy and fat.

Katieann,

Anne was born in 1950 and Caroline I believe was born in 1957.

Those seven years make all the difference.....

The difference between European royal frump of the century (this and last)and elegant, soignée, extremely lovely mature royal princess... ;)

Quite true Martyn!  Anne came of age in the late 1960's and Caroline came of age in the late 1970's.  Two different generations producing two different "products", no matter what the class royal or commoner.

I was joking...(yes, I know I should avoid it....)  :D

The age in which each was born is immaterial; it is to do with taste and interest.......
