In 2005 there is a news that Angelina Jolie will play Catherine the Great in Randall Wallace's new movie. The title is "Love and honor".

Anyone know what happened to this movie?
It is cancelled?

There are any new movie about empress Catherine II?? Any Marlene Dietrich's "The Scarlett empress" remake?

Does anyone know where I can find the complete version of Catherine the Great starring Catherine Zeta Jones? If I recall correctly it was like a 6 hour epic that was butchered when it came to DVD.

I have it taped. It was interesting. I also liked how they had Emily Bruni reading from things Catherine had written as a narrative sometimes.

I adore Glenn Close, but even she is not the right physical type. Despite her many lovers, Catherine II was known for her rather plain looks and stately figure!!!, although very intelligent looking and sophisticated. I don't know if any of you guys know the Bulgarian opera star Edita Gruberova. Physically she would be the perfect type to portray her. I had already found Catherine Zeta-Jones way too beautiful to make a believable Catherine. Imagine Angelina who is a 10 to Zeta-Jones's 9.9 on the beauty scale.

IMDB has no info on it. But that doesn't mean anything, IMDB is notorious for it's innaccuracies. (sp?)

Anyway, I think Angelina Jolie would be good as Catherine. She's a great actress.

Anyway off the topic, has anyone seen the documentry on CTG where the actress speaks directly to the camera? It was really good.

I think Gruberova would be excellent, at least physically as the older Catherine (although I don't know if she can act). Take a look:




I agree that AJ would not be believable as Catherine at all - she looks nothing at all like her... It would be all "too Hollywood" if they chose her for the role. I didn't like Catherine Zeta Jones as Catherine either, a totally wrong physical type. It's kind of nice when the actors at least resemble the characters they play.

I would love to see those programmes - particularly the one about the Princess Tarakanova.  Sadly they are not well known in the UK and, if available at all, probably don't have subtitles.  I will look out for them though!

Angelina Jolie as Catherine the Great? By golly what a hoot that would be!!!! I didn't realise Catherine used so much botox!!!! Now what role could Mr.Jolie, I mean Brad Pitt play? Perhaps he could be Peter III? Just joking folks!!!! Talk about bad taste putting Jolie in such a film!!! No doubt the script would be 100% historically accurate of course  - NOT!!!!
