The House of Braganca restored?!!!!
« on: November 20, 2005, 02:39:38 AM »
Of course Portugal's royal family is deposed but has any other the Portugueses thought of restoring the family so they could be a monarch again. I think it will be a good idea since their neighbor Spain has their monarch up on the go. The current Duke of Braganca and his family seem of great size to be a monarch.

I heard there was a movement for that, as the popular support shown at the wedding of  the Duke of Braganza had shown. However it must be the people who wanted it for that to happen.  ;)

i honestly don't see that happening unless there's a revolution or something. for that to happen we'd have to have some politicians willingly give up some rights... i really don't see that happening

I hope that Portugal will be a monarchy again, with the Duke of Bragança as king.

There is an old organisation in Portugal which supports the restoration of the monarchy under Dom Duarte Pio that is called the Causa Real. It is an umbrela organisation for many local bodies, called royal associations, that support the Royal House of Portugal. A link to the Causa Real website is below as are the links to a few of the royal associations. Most royal associations do not have web sites, like the one to which I belong, the Real Associação de Leiera. There is a very active royal association in North America composed of mainly Portuguese immigrants and second generation Portuguese-Americans: Real Associação de Nova Jersey e da Pensilvânia which is based in Newark.

This is the symbol for the Causa Real. Many of my friends have this symbol on the trunks of their automobiles. The blackish part of the oval should be dark blue, as blue and white are the colours of the Portuguese Royal House.

Another pipe dream...the Duke of Bragança is very much liked and holds a position of great distinction in Portugal.  That being said, there is no real movement for a restoration of the monarchy in his country.  He is quite well aware of this and discussed so with me in Portugal when I went to visit him at his invitation in 2003.

Dear Arturo,

It is unfortunate that we did not cross paths while you were in Portugal. I was told about your interview with the duke the following day by Carlos Evaristo, Dom Duarte's Vice Chancellor. While you were in Lisbon, I was staying between Fatima and the Castelo de Ourém where Carlos lives.

Dear David,

What a pity indeed...I had a fantastic time interviewing Dom Duarte and spending quality time with him.  He is such a nice man really.  I would have loved meeting you as well.

Dear Arturo,

I am certain to return sometime, probably to attend an investiture of the Order of Saint Michael of the Wing at the Church of the Most Holy Miracle in Santerem, there will be an investiture in June of this coming year but I will not be able to attend. For more information on this organisation under S.A.R. Dom Duarte Pio Duque de Bragança, see this link: http://www.geocities.com/torre_de_azur/

Below is a photograph taken at the investiture of the Order of Prince Danilo I that took place on the 4th of June 2005 at the Royal Palace in Cetinje, Montenegro. HRH Dom Duarte Pio Duque de Bragança received the Order in the grade of Grand Cross (on the right) from HRH Crown Prince Nikola of Montenegro (on the left).

I think the Royal Family of Bragança is becoming more and more a reference mark...
H.R.H. the Duke wasn´t so respected some years ago, but now  :D...you should see a simple Tv show when he is invited...
I'd say that if the moment was right (and things are bad now in Portugal, and there is starting to exist an increasing social instability) and some of the major parties had interest, Monarchy could be easily restored...but there are many left-winged people that would tolerate such a thing...Give them Stalin or Trotsky and they would love it...There is one communist MP (that coincidentally has my name) that said in Parliament that the only true democracy in the World was North Korea  :-X...I believe he is monarchist because he likes the only Communist Monarchy that exists...It could be a good sign  ;D...

i doubt anyone would want to be the puppet king of a communist monarchy. i don't think that that would be good. if the monarchy were to be restored it should be restored properly

Hello  :)

My point was to say that those who criticise so much monarchical ideas do make extraordinary statements that contradict completely their purproted democratic view of society...

I agree with you that if a Restauration was to be done, it sould be done the right way from the start...but that doesn't happen everytime...Look at the Spanish case...It started with a King that succeeded with dictatorial powers a ditator, but when he had understood that the ground was fertile to changes, and...boom...Democracy ahead...and the Spaniards were very very lucky...they are very well suited with their Kin, whom is an example to be studied...

for changes to be done by the monarch, the monarch has to have the power to make them. that's all i'm saying :)
