Oh. I have always read the baby was Nicky, but it can be simply a mistake.

As Katenka pointed out, the style of the dress is early 1870's, so I think it must be Alexander or Georgy.

You're making it? I'm envious...

I'm rather in love with the styles from 1870's-1880's. Not a fan of the 1890's but the Edwardian styles have grown on me. Good luck with your bustle.

well in "trying " to make one. Its wuite hard and expensive because its a lot of fabric what i need to finish it.

I  think i ll let it there and i will start to make another one...one exactly like this one...

Seems easier

I was wondering if Maria could be actually pregnant with Nicholas in this picture (excuse the colour, canot find the BW right now)

I just thought it worth mentioning that although it is very lilkely that Maria Feodorovna was pregnant simply because her dresses date to the late 1860s and early 1870s, in the early years of her marriage when she was pretty well continually pregnant anyway, her waist are pulled in and in Grand Duchess Ally's photo there looks like a distinct sign of a corset.  The front projection of her dress in ashanti01's photo is consistent with the last stages of the crinoline in about 1868 or 1869 so the fullness of the dress isn't a guide in suggesting she was bigger in front.  Indeed, if she had been, she would not have been photographed at all in what was clearly a formal shot (one of a series, I believe?).

She could have actually been either pregnant or post-birth in either picture.  All I meant was that the clothes themselves did not indicate that she was visibly pregnant since the crinoline stuck out in front as a natural feature of the costume and she was wearing corsets.  Once she started showing she would have worn some less restrictive form of corset and eventually none at all, and would not have posed for formal portrait photos.

I still think she is pregnant in the picture by Ashanti. It´s not just the dress, but her face and arms and just everything.

Of  course, but according the dress period (1870s) and how "full"  looks maria, not her belly..her face and arms, we were "Supposing" a pregnancy
