The two princes were obviously both quite young then (20-ish?), but Eitel already looks as theough he's going to have a weight problem in the future. In the photograph in uniform he's probably only in his 30s (it looks to me like a WW1 photo of him as Colonel-in-Chief of a regiment), but already very overweight. Poor fellow!

Is there much information about the Kaiser's relations with Eitel? I seem to remember reading in the diaries of Admiral von Muller that the Kaiser once passed very close to Eitel's headquarters when on a visit to the front in 1914, but didn't bother dropping in on him. This surprised Muller and makes me wonder whether the Kaiser was all that fond of Eitel.

i found this quote of Catherine Radziwill from "The Royal Marriage Market of Europe"   in Wikipedia. Maybe it could be useful

"Prince Eitel Fritz, who is his father's favourite, being as tall as he is brutal, and as ferocious as he is fat, took to himself a wife almost by compulsion, and in order to put an end to ugly rumours that were flying about Berlin concerning him and his strange propensities"

If this is true i had no idea he was Wilhelm`s favorite son.

Many in the photo are the von Diergardt family, huge industrialists who focused on the mill industry making cloth and fabrics.

I agree. That's not art at all. I don't like it a bit. I'm amazed that Royal families would like this kind of bad portraits of them. I like historical painting a lot, and sometimes, when I notice one of these ugly portraits I wonder why these royals would pay them. I think that if I was them, I should say this to the "artist" who would paint them: "...Good bye, bring the pic you've painted with you, burn it and don't return here any more..."  

It's sad, but Marie-Antoinette used to said that NONE of the pics of her could represent how she REALLY was.None of them, excepting those of Vigée-Lebrun had a real likeness to her. We are lucky that photography was invented, so we knows how XIX and XX (and of curse XXI) Century royals really looked like.

Funny that only the ladies looks really bad in that one cause Wilhelm and his sons looks pretty good for a Cartoonish illlustration.
