Thurn und Taxis, the younger line
« on: November 29, 2005, 11:46:27 AM »
Hi,

I read from books on Sisi that one of her ladies-in-waiting came from the House of Thurn & Taxis. She was called Helene like Sisi's elder sister, so there was quite confusing to trace which is which. I found out that Princess Helene Von Taxis was a distant cousin of Sisi's husband Furst Maximilan. I also heard she married a Count Kinsky and later retired. Any info on this royal lady ?

Does anyone know something about Eugénie de Tascher de la Pagerie(1839-1905) who became Princess von Thurn und Taxis by virtue of her marriage to Prince Maximilian von Thurn und Taxis(1831-1890)...What kind of kin was she to Empress Josephine? How did it come to Pagerie/Thurn-Taxis marriage?Anything about her or her family?

She was named Amélie Eugénie Thérèse Caroline de Tascher de la Pagerie. Her father was Charles de Tascher de la Pagerie, a son of Pierre Claude Louis Robert Tascher de la Pagerie with Amélie princesse de Leyen. Pierre Claude Louis Robert was proclaimed count of the empire before his marriage with Amélie de Leyen. The main reason for this was he was a son of a paternal uncle of empress Josephine, Robert Marguerite Tascher de la Pagerie.

So, empress Josephine was a first cousin of Pierre Claude Louis Robert, the paternal grandfather of your Eugénie ;)

The mother of Eugénie was a french noblewoman, Caroline, baroness Pergier de Perglas. Charles de Tascher de la Pagerie and Caroline were settled in Munich, Bavaria, after the fall of the empire. Maybe -I don´t know...- they found some protection from Eugène de Beauharnais, duke of Leuchtenberg, the son of Josephine. Your Eugénie, and her sister Hortense (full name: Hortense Stéphanie Anne Sophie Friédérique), were born in Munich.

And I can´t give you more info...
;)

I just found that her father was first Duke Tascher de la Pagerie...now that you told me that her grandmother was Princess von der Leyen und zu Hohengeroldseck I search the reason for this marriage because Leyens and Thurn-Taxis were intermarried,so that could be the reason for this kind of marriage...

Intersting to know about the other branches of the family. I though Johannes marry because his family was going to die off without an heir.

There are a lot of family members still alive especially from the younger branch of family (came from Maximilian Joseph (1769-1831), younger son of Prince Alexander Ferdinand). But most of them made a morganatic marriages, and that was probably the reason, why Johannes married...
