 Dr Who in Imperial Russia- why not? He has been to Tudoe and Victorian courts. As well as Versailles. I may be mistaken, but I think he also ran into the Kaiser at one point.  That might have been a different series though.

Robert, The Kaiser episode may have been Torchwood. If you are a fan of Dr. Who you should check out Torchwood on the BBC...a very cool spinoff of Dr. Who.

I just downloaded this from frozentears.org and...um...I wasn't too impressed. I couldn't take Nicholas seriously. I just stared laughing every time I looked at him, or he spoke.

The woman playing Alix wasn't too bad. I liked how young Alix was portrayed, sweet, but stubborn and naive. I just wished they'd been acted more realistically,  not so ridiculously over dramatic.

Well, I found an actual torrent with the episodes, and extra's from the UK DVD-release. Now my question is, is someone able to rip the subtitles from the DVD and post them somewhere? The reason why I am asking this is because I wanna sutbtitle it in my native language, yet do not understand everything - and subtitles are handy for that -, so I hope someone is able to help me out.

I know it's quite an odd question but I didn't know where to post it else.

I only rented the 1st disk, it was interesting concept how they went down the royal line... My favorite person in the DVD was Otto von Bismark ... But since I only saw the 1st disk and I don't know much about this specific event in Germany history I don't think I could give a good review.

It is funny that this should come back up now.  I have had The Fall of Eagles on DVD for years, but I just began to watch it yesterday.

I am only on disk one, but I saw in Austria that Emperor Franz Joseph was under pressure from both his wife and his mother much the same as Nicholas II was in Russia.  In Germany, King William of Prussia (he wasn't Kaiser yet) was crumbling under the pressure from Vicky and Fritz and his parliament.  Then Bismark came along.  I don't remember reading that King William was all that soft a ruler, but this is the way they are portraying him on this show.

Some of the transitional scenes are a little tacky but the acting is not bad and at least it is true to the time being portrayed.

I've just ordered the boxset. I remember watching Fall of Eagles when i was thirteen and at the height of my WW1 and Russian Revolution obsession. I thought it was great back then. Be very interested to how it has aged.

I am surprised too that Dr. Who has never landed in the midst of the revolution. Rasputin could have been The Master and Anastasia could have been a companion!!

There is some missing footage from the DVD edition, anyone know which episode , hoping the BBC archives will find it one day or has it has vanished forever,
you never know it might turn up one day, like the missing film of a early 1960's Dr Who episode found in New Zealand

I reckon we are due for a another mini series based on the subject of Fall of Eagles, 13 episodes made in 1974. After 36 years, I first saw it on Australian tv in black & white in the 1970's.
It was great to finally see it in colour on DVD , four years ago.

In reference to Hollywood, European and  British actors and actresses in the drama and film business, there is no one in my opinion with the talent to play the roles today,compared to the the 1974 Fall of Eagles
cast,you will probably have to scrape the barrel to find some decent actors compared to the  golden age of american,british and european films and actors from the 1930's to the 1990's.

'Fall of Eagles' had a superb cast, and some of the likenesses were incredible. Particularly Barry Foster as the Kaiser and Charles Hayes as Nicholas II.

No, I don't think you could do it nowadays.
