Yes, a harmless little furry blue fellow whose eyes dance delightfully as he talks...who could possibly object to being compared with him?

Coooookie!!!!!!

The Cookie nickname comes from the Duchess of Windsor who allegedly referred to QEQM as a 'fat Scotch cook' or some such thing - the exact quote escapes me at this moment - but that's the gist of it.

Perhaps 'Jedi Mother' is a more respectable nickname.

I actually had lunch with the Queen Mother.  It was in 1991, I think, at the Grand National. I was invited up by Peter Greenall who had a box.   The one thing that I remember was how short she was.    Actually if you are going to make allusions to fictional characters, the one she reminded  me most of was Paddington Bear.  After lunch, I remember the Queen Mother lost a gold pencil and me and Emma Freud and the ex foreign minister under Thatcher and a few other notables were scrambling on our hands and knees to try and find this pencil.
She spoke to me once of twice and when i responded, she asked where I was from.  She said with a smile, are you an American? I said no I was Canadian and she said oh excuse me but I love Canada. And she told me about a state visit she had made there before the war.  Before we all left, she came up to me once more and said I hope you will forgive me, I thought you were American.  She was very humble and it was a nice afternoon.

That's a really nice anecdote, Constantinople.  And you may have a point on that Paddington Bear thing...

And the bear himself...

There's a nice book about that visit to Canada - 'Daylight Upon Magic' - it's super cheap on Amazon and those places.  A nice addition to a Canadian's royal book collection.   ;)

I'm with Louise Henriette...it was intended to be a cruel jibe . However i'm sure Her Majesty wasn't too concerned what an upmarket prostitute said about her

Isn't that a 'cruel jibe' also?  Some of us approve of the 'Cookie' nickname, others don't.  The topic's getting a tad boring.  If the moderators haven't stepped in and requested that it not be used then I don't see what the problem is.  If that's the worst thing the Queen Mother has left as a legacy, then I think she would be well pleased.

A question regarding royal titles

What title would Queen Elizabeth II  have on leaving the throne, if the late Queen  Mother was still alive, just curious.

Due to current law, Queen Elizabeth does not leave the throne until she is dead.  Therefore the correct answer would be she would have a state funeral when she leaves the throne.  Thiis would be the case whether the Queen Mother was alive or dead.

I'm with you on that.

Wallis and QE were such differing characters that it is unlikely that if you admire one, the other will equally appeal.  It may well be that QE's comments about Wallis were uttered in private and thus have not enjoyed the longevity of Wallis's bon mots; more likely they were simply not as entertaining......

We've already been told that we can't use 'Stavros', so it would be a shame to lose 'Cookie' as well - both have brought us considerable amusement in the past.

Still if worst come to worst, 'Paddington' would suffice (think that they must have patronised the same milliner......)
