The letter isn't any particular great find most of it is quoted in the Vickers biography certainly the comments about what a curse black sheep are and the line about sending Wallis the note saying she was sorry she couldn't receive her! And he ignores a point about Paul of Yugoslavia - although Bertie and Elizabeth went along with the government view of him (churchill was scathing of him) but privately they certainly didn't share the public view of Paul and had far more sympathy with him. They arranged for his wife Olga to visit England to be with her sister Marina after the Duke of Kent was killed and they met with Paul and Olga during the South African tour although the visit was highly confidential.

Dear forummembers, I am writing an essay about Queen Victoria, India and the way the title of Empress of India effected her popularity in context with her image as the 'Widow of Windsor'.  At the end of the essay I'm also writting about the imperial inheritage Victoria left behind and what it meant to Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary and the last empress-consort of India Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. I couldn't really get a good bio on the Queen Mother (Yes not even the new one), so I was wondering if any of you have any idea what the Queen Mother's relation was with India? Thank you in advance!

King George V and Queen Elizabeth never visited India during his reign - a point that both bitterly regretted - initially it was a Government decision (at the time there were concerns over the cost of a Durbhar and who would pay it, a fear of stirring up trouble with the Congress Party and also that a formal tour would be too much for the King after the coronation, there were also concerns) George VI desperately wanted to go, he was less fussed about a Durbhar just wanted to be seen by his inidian subjects. Queen Elizabeth seems to share the view from what I've read in the most recent biographies her. The war of course prevented a visit and then in the post war period it would have been impossibly difficult, had India been given Dominion Status things might have been different of course.
The Imperial title was partly due to title inflation in the 19th Century - Victoria took it very seriously she believed that as Empress of India she had more authority than as Britain's constitutional monarch - she was also extremely protective of the rights of the Indian princes' who had recognised her status as Empress. That view certainly passed to her descendants. George VI was said to be quite dismayed by the way in which Mountbatten and the colonial office failed to protect the Indian prince's rights when independence finally happened.
Queen Mary was also extremely fond of India - dating from her tours as Princess of Wales and the Delhi Durbhar of 1911.

She was in Kenya with Prince Philip when he had to break the news to her that her father had passed away.

They were at the beginning of a long tour when George VI died, and had just arrived in Kenya and were due to go on to Australia.

Has anyone heard about this movie? It's called the King's Speech and started filming in November. "The King's Speech tells the story of the man who would become King George VI, the father of the current Queen, Elizabeth II. After his brother abdicates, George 'Bertie' VI (Firth) reluctantly assumes the throne. Plagued by a dreaded nervous stammer and considered unfit to be King, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue (Rush). Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead the country into war."

LOVE the cast.

Colin Firth (King George VI)
Helena Bonham Carter (Queen Elizabeth, wife of George VI)
Geoffrey Rush (Lionel Logue)
Jennifer Ehle (Myrtle Logue, wife of Lionel)
Michael Gambon (King George V)
Guy Pearce (David/Edward VIII)
Derek Jacobi (Archbishop of Canterbury)
Timothy Spall (Winston Churchill)

Colin Firth as George VI

So Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle are reunited--too bad she's not playing Queen Elizabeth!

According to IMDb, it is in post-production now. That makes sense, as there is so much more to do after the actual filming. And, if it just started  filming in November 2009, It could be  a year to come out.  When I saw Guy Pearce on the list you provided,  my eyes went big. He is one of my favourite actors. Very versatile.  As  an Aussie cowboy [sort of like their version of  Bonanza] and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Even though I am not  very interested in the subject- George's struggle with his stammer-  I will watch it  just  for  Guy Pearce! It sounds like British TV production to me.
