Thank you! I didn't know all the girls were present when Olga Nicholaievna was presented in society. So, as matushka said, it shows clearly that Nicky and Alicky were not too strict...Anastasia was a very young girl when she danced the Mazurka at two O'clock in the morning!

As I promised, the description of Moscow's ball, the 26 of April 1913, by the same author.
"(this ball) has been the most interesting part of the Moscow's solemnities. The ball was far more bright, magnificient and animated as was the ball of the Petersbourg's nobility. The room disapeared under flowers, grass...
But already come the sounds of the "Polonaise". The Empress AF was marvellously beautiful and regally majestic in her white embroidered of silver dress. She danced with Samarine and the Tsar with A. V. Bazilevskaya. Even the Tsar admired her magnificient emeraudes and her splendid diademe. The GD ON and TN had white dresses and modest little necklaces. TN had her hair cut after the typhus... All people admire them.
Peope looked with curiosity at the older Grand-duchesses and the Grands-dukes. The GD Nik. Nik. was taller as all people of a head. The GD Dimitri Pav., handsome and smart wore the red uniforme of the guard, and the GD Boris Vlad. in his uniform of the Dragons interested the ladies very much.
Moscow gave all what she could. All the old nobility, the nobility of blood was there. All the representants of the merchants were also there. People talked a lot about the dresses and jewels of the wifes of merchants as Nossov, Yakunchikov, Shchenkov.
They started to valse. The GD ON and TN opened the ball. All people admire them. The GD Dim. Pav. danced with his sister the boston, a new dance. They danced it admirably.
The Empress felt herself very bad but made all her possible to hide her pain. A special lift had been installed for her. She left the ball after an hour. The Tsar and the GD stayed until 2 o clock. The ball continued and ended with a supper with almost all the Grand-dukes and their wifes."

Sorry for the bad translation. At the beginning of this interesting thread, Pasha complained that we have no pictures of those events. I agree with him! But I found that the descriptions of the Head of the police are quite photographics, we can easily imagine the scene.
Tomorrow, I will give other quotations, about little court events of the modest Livadia's court.

So (O) TMAA did take part of balls?  :o :-? What Aleksey did during girls where dansing..? I doubt that Maria and Anastasia did take part in many balls but I can be wrong?? Did they dance with their father or was it only  prerogative of the one´s whos "coming out" ball was in this case Olgas? :) If I undersood Olga was the only one who had goming out ball. In how many balls other girls were then..?  :-? And stupid question: did they drink alcohol? I think they had very thight orders what to do and what not to do plus everyone were looking after them that no unwanted romances or situation would developed...? Particularly Maria and Anastasya were flirting persons...

Thank you, Matushka for the very interesting passage. I have been away from the site for a  while, but am very happy that this topic is still being explored. Where is this passage from? Was this in Russian?
I am still convinced that there must be some photos or even some film footage of some of these events. The imperial family was very fond of photography as we all know.

Pasha, the passages are from A. Spiridovich's book "Les dernieres années de la cour de Tsarskoe Selo". It was published in french in the 1920' years by the Payot Editions in Paris. It is of course out of print, and that is a pity because it is a priceless source about daily life of the IF, about security's questions and about all Court event. There are plenty of rare pictures. I copied some of them many years ago, but did not yet scan them. There is no russian translation, but we can hope, as others books of the same author were translated in the last 2 years (about the February's events and about Rasputin, if I am correct).
I am looking for this book also, but can not find it...
Mie, you asked did the GD drink alcoohol. In his recent book about the court of the last Tsar, Greg King writes that all the children, from an early age drink at dinner some Saint Raphael' wine, which was supposed to be healthy. I have not any other information.

I have translated most of Spiridovitch's book.  Here is my, no offense meant, better translation of Olga's Ball (Volume 2 Chapter 5) Translation copyright Rob Moshein 2004-2006.
On November 3, Grand Duchess Olga Nicholaiovna was going to be 16.  In Russian cities, every young girl impatiently awaited this event. It was the time of her first ball, her first coming out to the world…In the Imperial Family, which was governed then by a patriarchal life, they stayed quite true to the ancient customs.  Thus a dinner and gala party was going to take place on that day at the Palace. Invitations were sent out, inscribed thusly:
"Their Imperial Majesties invite to dinner and a dancing party to be held on Thursday November 3rd, at 6:45 in the evening, at the Livadia Palace [here was the name of the guest].
"Military cavaliers in frock coat with epaulets.", civilians in evening dress with white tie. 1911"
Dinner was served on small tables.  Many candles, silver, flowers.  Around a round table in the center was seated Their Majesties, Grand Dukes Nicholas Nicholaviovitch, Pierre Nicholaiovitch, Alexander Michaelovtich, George Michaelovitch, with their wives, and the Minister of the Court.
The star of the party, Olga Nicholaiovna, in a pink dress, for the first time, her hair in a chignon, presided over a table. Her escort was N.P. Sabline.  Still a young girl, very naïve, she often asked her escort what she should do.  Next to her sat Tatiana Nicholaiovna with her escort N.N. Rodyanov. Around the rest of her table was seated the Emir of Boukhara, Generals Komorov and Knyagyevitch.  The other tables were occupied by the young Grand Duchesses, the children of Grand Dukes, Christopher Prince of Greece, the maidens of honor, the suite, the ladies of local society, officers of the escort and from the Standard from Their Majesties' regiments, the Crimean regiment, fusiliers and a delegation from the 9th Hussar regiment of Elisabethgrad of which Olga was the chief.
During dinner the Crimean regimental band played music.
After diner, all of the invited guests, other than the Imperial Family, were presented to Their Majesties.  During the presentations, they took down the tables and prepared the room for dancing.
The presentations finsihed, the Emperor called to him the commandant of the Hussar regiment and announced to him in Olga Nicholaiovna's presence, that he was according to the regiment the permission to carry the white pelisse.  The commandant was filled with joy.
"You certainly may take notice of this authorisation to your regiment" added the Emperor. "I authorise you to use my telegraph."
The commandant was accompanied by a member of the suite immediately to use the telegraph.
However the young chief of the regiment was even more happy than the commandant.  All red in the face, charming in her pink dress, Olga Nicholaiovna literally beamed with joy at the great favor accorded to her regiment.  They congratulated her and kissed her hand.  One of the officers of the Crimean regiment told her:
"At present, Your Imperial Highness, the traditional device of Your regiment received its full sense: to preserve the name of Olga, the white pelisse and the standard.
"This device already existed?" asked Olga, astonished.
The officer responded: "It existed and yet exists."
They began to dance.  This was a succession of waltzes, contre-dances, polognaises, cotillions, mazurskas.  It was announced that the cavaliers could invite the Grand Duchesses to dance without first asking special permission each time. It was the commandant of the Crimean regiment, Knyagyevitch, who called the dances.  He seemed to be particularly in form, the Emperor had said to him, some moments earlier, in the small interior courtyard where he had gone to smoke:
      "Your musicians play quite well."
He did not wait an instant to convey this good news to the commandant and the officers.
They danced the cotillion in the old fashioned manner. Pretty badges, jetons and an extraordinary profusion of flowers.
The Empress, who was quite uncomfortable, followed the party, seated in an armchair next to a column.  Next to her was the Tsarevitch in a white sailor's uniform.  He watched everything going on around him with a genuine curiousity.  The Empress told him to go to bed, but he asked permission to stay.  And, then, he did so again.  It required the intervention of the Emperor.  He approached, said several words, and instantly the Tsarevitch, pouting, retired, accompanied by his teachers Gilliard and Petrov.
During the rest of the ball, the Emperor played bridge.  He often got up from the table to cast on eye on the young ones, which amused him.  The gaiety was complete.  The Grand Duchesses floated like butterflies.  The two older ones had the same dresses and both wore their hair in chignons.  The two younger ones also wore the same dresses, with their hair long down their back.  During the cotillion, all of the ladies wore tiaras on their heads, although the Empress had put her own tiaras onto the head of the dancing girls.
Two o'clock rang out, when they finished dancing the final mazurska.  The Empress got up.  Their Majesties went around the room, greeting the guests; the Grand Duchesses extended their hand out to everyone.  The ladies curtseyed deeply and the men bowed profoundly in a most respectful manner, the officers saluted militarily.  Their Majesties and their children retired to their rooms. The ball was over.

Thank you for answering my question. Do you happen to know in what languages this book has been translated to?

I believe the Spridovitch work was published only in the original Russian and concurrent French translation.  I know there was never an English version published, and I have never seen it in any other language.
