I'm very concerned at the statement, that the cartoon on the life of Anastasia, 'was just a watered down version of what happened'. Could you or a loved one stand to see the life of your loved one, be diminished in telling something that was not truth?

Would any mother, or father, or family member of a murdered victim's family feel good that their lives were depicted in a cartoon?

The children of revolution are not only faced with living or having lived daily, such awful scenerios, but must also take what has happened to them, and to their whole families, with them wherever they go in life. It's not to say though that some rise above all their difficulties. But we as 'outsiders', should not change historical events, [cartoon wise] if only to appese those politically, or for money. The film was not obviously offered to offer anything, but to gain revenue.

We recently had here in the US the terrible tragedy of 9/11. Should we offer our children, or the world's children and their families, a 'watered down version of what actually transpired', and put it in a cartoon feature for Saturday morning viewing complete with sweets?

How many historical events that have ended with the terrible killing spree to leaders and their familes, or to a nation, are, or have been offered in cartoon fashion as was Anastasia?

Children then of the Russian Revolution and many others globally, in harms way, in today's world, live through the most harrowing of circumstances.

They would not want history to be deceived in any way, nor their names, or their lives to be depicted in any other way.

Dignity comes in many forms, and the bottom line is 'Dignity'.

To belittle names, and lives of known, unknown personages [any age], is not the most positive way of keeping their memory alive and well!

Thanks for allowing me  to share my thoughts.

I too have watched the one were Anastasia is bundled off to a farmer and his old mean wife. It was interesting but completly stupid.  Although it freaked me to see the masks on OTM and Alexei.

Has anyone watched the cartoon on PS1.  It is even worse the drawings are gay. The story is even crap.  Rasputin is the course for everything.  At least they pronounce Anastasia's name right and not the American way.

Yeah, I saw that cartoon as well...and the bit about the masks creeped me out a little too. And yeah, it was pretty stupid.

Here's the Anastasia anime movie:

It has the name "Princess Anastasia."

I don't know much about it.  However, I do know that it's yet another "she survived!" stories.

I have not seen it but the last thing is one thing in its favor LOL!

Re: "the drawings are gay" comment: You're a teenager aren't you? I wouldn't expect an adult to say something like that.
Hatred – this is a disgusting feeling. Yes, there is sport gambling, there is a striving to win. But to hate someone – this is awful! I think, that first of all you have to learn to respect your rival. -- Evgeni Plushenko

No I am not a teenage I am 21, I used the term "gay" as opposed to using the word "CRAP" as I don't want to get kicked off.  Remember this is a family website.  :P

Here is one of the "bad" Anastasia's. Supposedly the family gets turned into instruments! And it has a happy ending. Hmm...   ::)  It is too funny.

This is actually the first film I ever watched about Anastasia ( the one with the instruments). Yes, it is absurd, but it got me really into it, and made me feel more connected to the Romanovs, so when I watched the 20th Century fox one, then after that I was ready to start reading, and getting interested. Yes, it was a bad film, but hey, sometimes bad films do good things... ;)

I just have one question, and one question only;
WHAT is so bad about instruments that they make a cartoon of a family frightened and threatened on being turned into some?  ???
Yurovsky: We have decided that because of the outrest and the decisions you and your family have made; tonight, you and your family will be all.....turned...into instruments. *takes our magic wand and starts chanting*
::)
Really, even Yurovsky shouoldnt be porttrayed as a fairy godmother, or whatever those dunces thought of!
The 'better' one seems like a historical exploit just for providing villians and 'fun entertainment' for children......
but instruments??!??! THAT is sad.  :o

Yes, and it is rather absurd as well, in my opinon! I mean instruments! I coudn't believe how corny the movie was, and I was 11! But it touched a chord in me, and made me more interested in the Romanovs, so I guess that was good. But it is a silly movie, most likely made for really young kids, ( or let's hope). But it made more want to learn more about the real Romanovs ( who were not instruments!) ;)

I've never seen these movies, but online critic Phelous ripped them to shreds.

Anastasia (Dingo Pictures):

Anastasia (Golden Films)

The Secret of Anastasia

The last one really blew me away, the talking instruments were the ghosts of Nicholas, Alexandra, Tatiana (who's name they mispronounced) and Alexei!?    And where were Maria and Olga??

Why do these movies insist on having Rasputin lead the revolution?  Putting aside the fact that he was dead by the time it happened, why would he want to overthrow the Romanovs, they were his meal ticket.

All I can say is what were they smoking when they made these things?

I believe they were all profiting from Fox's Anastasia. Even with it's historical inaccuracy, I believe we can all agree that was and is better than the others.

I'm guessing that the Fox version, historically inaccurate as it was, did not include talking animals and ghosts possessing musical instruments.

Bartok.

That is all.
