Portraits of Marie Anna Leopoldine, Princess of Bavaria
« Reply #45 on: September 07, 2007, 05:26:57 PM »
I search about pictures of Marie Anna- daughter of King Maximilian I. of Bavaria, and sister- twin of Archduchess Sophia.
I've never seen any of her pictures except for one, where she was with sister Sophie.
So, would be brilliant, if someone has pictures of her and can post it. ;)

So, it's pity...Actually I remember 2 pictures-on both of them she was with her twin Sophie.
On one of them she was a young little girl and on another older woman.
But I've never seen her own portrait. It could be interesting to see her when she was around 25 years old.
Sophie was quite pretty as a young woman. So I wonder whether Marie Anna had same image in dressing and making
her hair as her sister.

By the way does anybody know why she was married so late? She married Frederik Augustus II. of Saxony in 1833, when she was 28,
but her sisters were much younger, when they married. Why her parents didn't marry her earlier like her sisters?
Also her younger sister Ludovika was married earlier then she, just in 1828, when she was 20.

Ludovika was betrothed in the cradle with her cousin Max. Her sisters had political marriages. However I read that the family life was so happy that most do not want to leave home. It may explain why some married later than others.  :)

And maybe only her mother Queen Karoline wanted to keep one of her daughters at home longer time, because her husband died in 1825.
So, she would become very lonely without any children. Therefore Marie stayed with her so long.

Perhaps, but also Ludovika spent a lot of time with her mother (since she did not marry aboard), even Max got along well with his mother-in-law.  :)

No, Max didn't like his mother-in-law at all. Just one example: Whenever one of her daughters gave birth to a child, Caroline usually was with her. But Max didn't allow Caroline to support Ludovica.

Princess Susan, here are some pictures of Maria Anna (Marie) Queen of Saxony, née Princess of Bavaria and twin sister of Archduchess Sophie:

Thanks MarieCharlotte for pictures. I see obvious resemblance between Marie and Sophie especially on second picture, if I compare Sophie's portrait by Joseph Stieler. And also as a older ladies had similar image, how can see on third picture.

You thought of Amalie? No, on this picture we see Marie. That's for sure. :-)

I can't explain it, but I think that I can differentiate between Sophie and her twin Marie. Maybe I've seen to many pics of the Archduchess. ;-)

So can I. Although they were identical twins I don't think they look totally alike.
