Does anyone know if there's a thread where all the known formal photographs of the family would be dated and numbered? There's so many formal photographs of Nicholas that it would be difficult to put together such a list for him, but I was mostly thinking about some of the well-known 1900s/1910s photo sessions with the children when this question came to mind. For example, I have 6 photos of the family's formal session from 1913; the sixth I only found this year and the variation in their poses is so small that at first sight I thought it was just a better-quality version of a photo I already had. Another example is that I have 8 formal photos of Tatiana but only 5 of Maria from the 1914 session: were more photos taken of Tatiana because she was older, is it simply chance that more Tatiana photos have been made available on the internet, have some of Maria's photos been forever lost, or am I still missing 1914 Maria photos that are out there to be found?

That's why I started thinking a list would be useful and wondering if there is any way to find information about how many formal photographs are known to exist of each family member in each year. Something like Anastasia - 1911: 3, 1912: 0, and so on.

Thank you, that's the kind of thread I was thinking about!

Hi there,

I'm looking for someone who is good with dating photos of OTMA and is willing to do some email correspondence with me in regards to such. Please PM me if you're interested.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is Alexandra with the girls, is it not?

It's Alexandra. I don't think she's immediately recognisable in that photo but in the 1916 Dnieper photos she has the same look: a hat with a net to cover her face, pearls, and black scarf-like thing (I don't know what it's supposed to be) around her neck.

I agree, it is Empress Alexandra. It was taken in May of 1916, during IF's visit to a battleship in South Crimea.

I was 99.9% sure that it was, but I was doing some work on the girls' wikipedia pages and that photo is labeled as being Sophie B. I corrected it and the person changed it back and insisted that I was wrong. Just wanted to be sure of my identification before I went further.

Thank you.

IMO, she is wearing it in this one, and most probably she wears the same outfit like in the one above that GDKassy posted.

(Taken in spring of 1916, after Aleksei recovered the severe nose-bleeding he had had in December of 1915).

"Find a citation for the dates on the photos before you change them. Anything other than that is original research."

Well, I tried.

Could this be from 1913? It looks as though Tatiana might have a fringe like when she wore the wig.

I can't date this one (originally titled Olga) at all.

Tatiana?

The girl on the left is Anastasia, the girl on the right reminds me most of Tatiana, but I can't say whether the third is Olga or Maria.

This one is tough (Olga?) but I hope it'll someday turn up in high quality, since it might be another glimpse of what the girls' rooms looked like in wartime (the curtains are familiar).

Yes, it is.

Pretty hard. I'd say 1914.

I'd say Maria.

Honestly, I think it is Maria, cca. 1915.
