Royal Menagerie
« on: January 17, 2006, 12:16:25 PM »
In the past centuries it was usual for royalty to have their own "menagerie" with exotic animals. Soem of these menageries (like the one in Vienna) grew out to be the present Zoo.

To begin with I have some pictures of The Menagerie of Stadtholder William V at palace Het Loo. The painitngs are now hanging inpalace Huis ten Bosch

Thijs, the menagerie was not at Het Loo Palace, but at the Palace in Dieren(what's in a name)now gone.It was ransacked by the French and most animals ended up dead or were transported to Paris.
