I would have to agree that he began with a reproduction of the photo, then went from there.

It certainly is startling to those of us familiar with Tatiana's photo.

I decided to open a thread on that site and ask the very same question.

So far many have read, but none have answered.

I dropped in the link to the black and white pic of Tatiana in case those who read on POV are not as savvy as we are.

Perhaps someone will come up with some more info.

Yes, it is Tatiana, he saw a photo of her in magazine, and then produced this, which is interesting, and shows how the Gds influenced popular culture; think about how much more influence they would have had if they had lived. Thanks for drawing this to our attention. I certainly don't know much about Henry Darger, but its fascinating trivia, or perhaps more. ;)

I know that the color picture of the uniform shows that the front insert is yellow, but yellow doesn't read darker in black and white, it usually reads lighter or white like the cord and braid on her shoulders.

I wonder if there was more than one version of the uniform and if in the black and white picture, the insert is red.

Red would read a darker black against the blue which reads a lighter shade of black.

I have lost my link to POV so I don't know if anyone on that site ever noticed the similarities or if anyone actrually was a Tatiana fan and knew (as we all did) that the similarities are so striking.

Hello!
I am quite new here but I think that I'm familiar with the image that you are discussing. I thought that it was of Alexie ... but it well could be Tatiana!

H. Darger was a curious man.

That's what it looks like, I think you are right Helene! :)

It sure does look like Tatiana, except for some of the styling on the uniform as was mentioned earlier. Very curious! Hopefully someone will reply to your thread Alixz and maybe give us a bit of a back story on the picture.

Actually, according to Lanie (wish I could find the thread!) yellow can appear darker than other colors in B&W -- even in the case of gold jewelry or blonde hair.
