when you show people who have really existed, and you name them, you have no right to innacurencies, even if (or especially) if they are dead

Oh what a load of tosh. I know this thread is getting off topic, so i'll keep it short. You do have a 'right to inaccuracies' because, essentially you are creating art. Art is subjective, it uses other things as inspiration. Art explores other things, things that did not necessarily exist or happen, based on fact and that is why it is a film not a documentary.

sorry I disagree with you on this point, but as we said before it's a forum so we are here to express our different opinion and share our point of view! I just think that if Tatiana watch it, she would feel very ill at ease and find it disrespectful, "art " or not, but this is just my thoughts.

Wow, I haven't seen this film in a while and forgot how little resemblance the actors had to the real characters!

Nothing to do with the real Olga...Specially the nose! Do you remember that Olga always complained about how short her nose was?  ;D Olga had a rounder face...This actress has a lot thiner face, with really thin cheeks! No Olga at all...

As for Tatiana...As someone pointed here longtime ago, Tatiana and Maria were switched in this movie. The actress who played Tatiana was much more like Maria in physical features and vice-versa. The more similar to the "real thing" of the girls was "Anastasia" (Fiona Fullerton), but only for her mischievous expression, the bans and the hair...otherwise, nothing like her.

And yes...there were the 70's.  ;D

RealAnastasia.

I'm not sure how old the actresses were, I think someone said the one playing Tatiana was about 16?? While the real Tatiana at that time would have been about 21.  I would guess they were in their teens somewhere, maybe early 20's, probably not all that far off from the girls' real ages. (And don't forget--some people look much older than they really are while others look much younger!) Actors often play characters who are actually somewhat older or younger than themselves. (Hopefully we won't soon see a 50-year-old actress playing a 16-year-old girl tho!  :D)

Anna, was it you who posted the pics of the actors playing the Imperial Family? Thank you so much, it's great being able to see them up close and compare them to the "real" IF!

I agree, the only one who looks even remotely like one of the girls is Fiona Fullerton who played Anastasia. The others look wrong, wrong, wrong--and yes, those awful early 70's hairdos--why couldn't they make the hair as authentic as the clothes??? The actress playing Olga looks nothing like the real Olga--and Tatiana isn't much better!! And Marie had such a pretty, rosy face, she was nearly always smiling--the girl playing her looks like she's just bitten into a lemon lol!!

I do watch the movie sometimes (I have it on DVD and yes, it has that stupid scene of Tatiana opening her gown--she would never have done that!!!) mostly because there isnt much else on film about the Romanovs. All in all I think it's not such a bad movie, mostly badly miscast (OTMA especially) and I just don't see as much of the girls as I personally would like--in the movie they look (and act!) interchangeable!!

I do wish someone would make a really good film about the last Romanovs---properly cast (please!!!) and showing the real story!

And much more OTMA please!!!  ::)

the only way that will happen is if a huge fan of the Romanov's writes and directs it....because unless the writer/director is  intrigued by the story and about the Imperial family....it prolly won't be that good...i mean do directors and writers even do that much research when making a historical film?
lets hope it happens soon... :-\
