Aw, the first pic of the two "mystery women" in the salon won't load! Could you repost it please?

I'm afraid I am not all that technical so the best I ca do is re-post the link,

http://groups.msn.com/ImperialDynastyTheROMANOVARCHIVES/thestage.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=297

Maybe this will work

http://groups.msn.com/ImperialDynastyTheROMANOVARCHIVES/thestage.msnw

The picture is listed under the 'Standart' the main salon aboard #22B3.jpg

I hope this works.

Ah, they work now. It is a little hard to see, the GD looks like Maria, but it's really Tatiana. That is Vyurbova too.

Being a BIG fan of ships and yachts of that period, all I can say is, WOW, she was beautiful! Incredible. She could have given some smaller liners a run for the money! Thanks for posting. I always wondered what she looked like inside (I recall seeing pictures of the deck areas and exterior).

This might be a stupid question, but how did the Standart travel from the Baltic to the Black Sea? Via rivers I guess, but which ones?
Thanks
Yoyo

The Standart travel from the Baltic Sea  to the Black Sea via the Mediterranean Sea.  Check a map and you can see it clearly.

I see a very long trip through the Baltic, the North Sea, the Atlantic, the Mediteranean, then the Aegean, into the Black Sea. Was that the route? Sorry, still confused.

In 1914, war was declared and the Standard, by order of the Tsar was placed in dry-dock, and he never again returned to the tranquility of the Finnish or Crimean coastline's.

In 1917, the Standard was renamed Vosemnadtsate Martza.

In 1932, she was renamed Marti.

In 1941, On 23rd September, Marti was damaged in an air attack at Kronstadt.

In 1946, after the war 42-45, Marti was refitted and converted to a training ship, renamed Oka.

In 1963 She was scrapped at Tallinn in Estonia.

My, look how much the Standart changed from elegance to an ugly naval ship.  :P

I was in St. Petersburg in 2004 and walked the area of the Neva behind the Admiralty which Peter the Great had intended for ship building in the early days of the city, but which had been transformed into a prestigious address in the nineteenth cen.   While the entire admiralty complex needs restoration I thought some of the old dock area should be transformed again into a dry-dock museum of the Imperial navy.  I could make an absolutely superb setting with the tower of the Admiralty, a restored Admiralty frontage on the river and a group of tall ships, even perhaps a restored Imperial yacht.  Someone among the well-heeled of this world should see to the realization of such a space.

I could not agreed more with you in your wise view, imagine how great and  beautiful Saint Petersburg had the potential to be, not only the city itself but the whole area down to Oranienbaum to Tsarskoye Selo / Pavlovsk / Gatchina. Restore all these great places to former state. It would be amazing. Then start to give back Skt. Peterborg and these areas back to the Romanovs and other noble families again.

Now any of Romanovs or any noble families could buy some ruined palaces of Petersburg from the State ( Not Petrodvorets or etc., of course).
Please come, buy ,restore, which cost a lot of mony. Everybody is welcomed.
The proper maintanance of ever a small palace costs a lot of money.
But restoration costs more , more and more.
