I had no idea of most of these things existing in Finland! I was in Helsinki last month and went around the city but didn't get to see any of these things. I'll be back there again soon so hopefully I'll be able to find some of them.

If you visit Lappeenranta, Finland this summer there is an exhibition of Marie Feodorovna in the fortres of Lappeenranta. Here is a link for more information about the exhibition:

And in Suomen kansallismuseo (national museum of Finland)..

..you can find portraits of the tsars that were grand dukes of Finland (and of their spouses) and also a throne that belonged to tsar Alexander I. You can see the picture of the throne in here:

p.s. almost forgot.. the emperors station is undergoing restoration at the moment, but i don't know if they are going to make it a museum or what..

Bad news from Finland - Emperors station in Lappeenranta burned down
« Reply #46 on: January 19, 2013, 05:18:04 AM »
(Sorry for my very bad English, hope you understand something of my text..)

So I woke up today to some really bad news.. The Emperors station in Lappeenranta Finland has burned down last night.. :(

Here's a link, sorry it's in Finnish..

http://www.esaimaa.fi/Online/2013/01/19/Lappeenrannan+Keisarinasema+tuhoutui+tulipalossa/2013115046676/4

It wasn't that long ago that the station was restored. It's especially sad for the town of Lappeenranta, as the building is.. was one of the few remaining in Lappeenranta that was built in the imperial era and was actually visited by the emperor.

p.s. Found another link with more pictures..

And comparatively recently restored!  What a shame.  Thank you for the information. Your English is excellent.  Regards,   AP.

Not being able to read the story can you tell me what the cause was; arson, accident, or act of God?

Very sad indeed.

I can try to translate some of it.. (not word for word and also not the complete text..)

link 1

"The old emperors station got destroyed in a fire last night. The building located in the center of Lappeenranta on Snellmanninkatu was caught on fire just after midnight. The Fire and Rescue Services got the call at 0:41. No lives were at risk according to the Fire and Rescue Services. There is still no information of what caused the fire. The police and the Fire and Rescue Serviceswill inspect the cause of the fire. "
Link 2

"When the Fire and Rescue Services got to the scene, the flames were already going through the walls and the fire managed to spread to the attic. The building in question is an old wooden building, so after the fire got to that point there wasn't much that could be done anymore. A nearby resident made the call. The historical building was destroyed completely in the fire. No one got hurt. The police started an official investigation in the afternoon. Nearby buildings weren't in any harm. Not so long ago restored building was finished in 1885 when Russian emperor Alexander III visited the town of Lappeenranta. For example the waitingroom ceiling with it's paintings had restored to there original condition. The building was meant to be a tourist attraction containing a cafe and a souvenir shop."

I also found out the cafe would have opened this spring.. :(

So sad that Lappeenranta has now lost the emperors house AND the emperors station. And to think how the townspeople fought to maintain the historic building.. :(

Just walked past the ruins today. Smoke was still rising. It was truly a sad thing to see. I took a few pictures. I'll upload pictures if I can figure how to do it.

That day was very cold in the Southern Finland as I know (I was in Helsinki 19th January and the temperature was below -20 C), possibly the reason was somewhat connected with fire safety.
