My "fave" romantic couples:

- Rupprecht and Marie Gabrielle of Bavaria

- Albert and Victoria of England

- Friedrich Wilhelm III. and Luise of Prussia

- Gustav and Daisy of Sweden

- Nicholas and Alexandra of Russia

Um, I was just thinking of Nicholas and Alexandra's love story, and then I thought about Romeo and Juliet. Do the two couples have anything in common? E.g. The two pairs died together, except N and A were murdered and R and J committed suicide.

Marie-Liesl, I can't really say that Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson were VERY romantic. I mean, sure, Edward gave up his throne for her but in 2003, the British government released documents showing that while she was with Edward, she was having an affair with some car dealer named Guy Trundle. And while she was having an affair with Edward, she was still married to Ernest Simpson (but filed for divorce later).
It's not that much of a romantic setting. Don't you think Nicholas and Alexandra were MUCH, MUCH more romantic? They were childhood sweethearts and none of them had affairs ... Except Nicholas's affair with Matilda Kshessinskaya, though before his marriage and Alexandra never had any affairs (just rumoured to have one with Rasputin, only people didn't know of the tsarevich's illness and that Alexandra always wrote in a very emotional style).
But never mind, that's your opinion.

Lovy.

LOL, and peoples, forget about my post before this one.  :D

Hm...I think Nicky and Alix are ONE of the most romantic couples in history, but I think Cleopatra & Marc Antony and Fritz & Vicky are at the top.

Here, let's make a list.

The Most Romantic Couples in History:

1. Friederich III of Prussia & Victoria of England
2. Nicholas II of Russia & Alix of Hesse
3. Cleopatra of Egypt & Marc Antony
4. George I of Greece & Olga Konstantinovna
5. Constantine II of Greece & Anne-Marie of Denmark

I suppose from Edward's side, though, it could be viewed as very romantic.  He never looked at another woman for the rest of his life and surrounded Wallis with every attention imaginable, even becoming fretful if he couldn't see her in a room full of people.  Also, if they had to spend a night apart, Edward would set up all these framed photographs of her to surround his bed whilst he slept.

While some of us might find this a little extreme, whatever we think of Wallis, she was supremely lucky in that not many women are ever loved as deeply and totally as she was.  :'(

I always thought Charles I and Henrietta Maria were a very romantic couple . . . I'm probably alone in that.  ::)

Hmmm, just this very second I was watching a documentary on palaces. I wasn't paying too much attention to the TV though, because I was looking through this forum. I think they might have mentioned one of the Romanov palaces, but I didn't see. Anyway, it talked about Maria Theresa, Empress of Austria, and by the sounds of it, she seemed to have a good romance with her husband, Francis Steven. And she was a great empress! She stressed so much after he died that it did quite harm to her health. Anyways, lets stick to the topic here...

Nicky + Alix are my DEFINITE favourite romance couple and always will be!

I was just looking through this topic and with the committing suicide part - I don't think they would. But might come VERY close, even though killing yourself is a sin! But for the sake of their children (ESPECIALLY Alexei) they would live. However, I won't be surprised if they did committ suicide.
But they died together (I hope that doesn't sound bad). And maybe for them, it is better so, as after one of them died, the other would not wish to live (as King George V even noted).

I wasn't sure where else to put this post but---
has anyone read Margaret George's "autobiography" The Memoirs of Cleopatra? I'm in the middle of it right now...pretty good so far...I love the fact that the author wrote it from Cleopatra's point of view. :)

I think they were defintely one of the most romantic couples in history, and their love story is inspirational. Nothing tarnishes it, nor mars it. They loved each other to the end and were commited to each each other. Neither one of them was unfaithful, and they were defintely soul mates. Some love stories have a tragic ending, but this one didn't, they died together, sure of the loyalty of the other. It could be described as tragic, but it could also be described as a great deal of commitment. So many other love stories never ended that way.

Er.. killing ur self is a sin if your christian or catholic. Right? So that wouldn't have been an option for them. And I do agree that Nicky and Alex are deffinetly on the list of top 5 'love lists' that you guys are making. Tee hee!  ;)

What about Prince Charles & Camilla Parker-Bowles?...no please, don't beat me!!! I was just kidding..
Well, I beleive Nicky & Alix to be one of the most romantic couples in history but also I'll like to include (as someone has mentioned above) Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, Shah Jahan & Mumtaz Mahal and Alexander III & Empress Marie (I don't know why their story has capture my attention).

Hm I guess my post was too recent to make it over to the nice new server. What I said was that they weren't Catholic at ALL but it's a sin in the Orthodox faith too.
