Personally, I think it is stuffed, but that's just me. I didn't think it was Vashka. Wasn't she around during WW1? When did she arrive?

no she didn't go to exile with them. the only pet that went with them was nastya pet, jimmy!

I am... but I was sure a photo said something about Joy being hte only survivor of the massacre. But then again, this book also said that Olga was Maria!

joy might not have gone personally with them into exile... but jimmy died with them in the celar!

Some records say that Anastasia did(n't) take him down to the cellar... very confsuing! But they say that the executions did find his body at some point... It must have been very horrible for Jimmy, if he was in the cellar to watch everyone die... And that's coming from a person who is very scared of dogs!

Well..Jimmy was murdered with them, he was found by the grave..There's even a picture of it .
I think she'd take him to the cellar, cause I don't think the murderes would kill Jimmy if he wasn't with the family.  :-/

Yeah, I guess you're right... But the accounts of the murder show that the men (esp. Ermakov) were in such a frenzy, it's hard to believe that if Anastasia had left Jimmy upstairs, he'd probably have been killed for barking...
How was his name spelt in Russian... since there is no J - a G of Dzh is used - and I've seen it written Jemmy...
I know it is weird, but does anyone have that photo?

I wonder why it was so fashionable for babies back then to have faux-hawks. In the baby pics of Olga, Alexei, and Maria at various christenings they are all decidedly rocking the hawk. Luckily they were all cute enough that it didn't detract from their looks. I wonder if this is where punk rockers got the idea?
And in the pics of Maria at ca. 1900 she looks like Mrs. Claus in her getup.
