Stuart Godparents

Hi everyone.  ;)

Can anyone fill me on some Stuart godparents? The only ones I know are :

-Elizabeth I was godmother to James I, Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, and Elizabeth, the Winter Queen.
-The Winter Queen was godmother to James II.
-Prince Rupert of the Rhine was godfather to Mary II.
-Catherine of Braganza and the Pope of the day were godparents to the old Pretender.

Anne of Austria was a godmother to Minette, reason for which the child, who had been known as Henrietta, had from then on the additional name "Anne".

Thank you both!  :D Does anyone know why Princess Louise-Marie added the name 'Therese' after her confirmation? Anything to do with a godmother?

Charles II had two sets of godparents.  One set was Frederick of Bohemia and Marie de Medicis.  The other set was Frederick Henry of Orange and his wife Amalia.

James II also had two sets of godparents.  One set was Frederick Henry of Orange and his wife Amalia (William III's grandparents).  The other set was Elizabeth of Bohemia and her son Karl-Ludwig.  James's sister Elizabeth was certainly named after their aunt Elizabeth, who probably acted as godmother to her namesake.

William III's godparents were Elizabeth of Bohemia and James II.  

Henrietta Maria and her brother Gaston were the godparents of their nephew (and her future son-in-law) Philippe of Orleans.

Louise-Marie's godparents were Louis XIV and Liselotte, Duchess of Orleans.  She probably took Therese for her confirmation name as a compliment to Louis's wife, Maria Teresa of Spain.

I think that Charles II acted as godfather to Minette's oldest daughter.

Mary of Orange's godmothers were the Countesses of Denbigh and Carlisle.

Mary II's godmother was Liselotte.

I'm sure it was - Mary Tudor was godmother to one of her Brandon cousins (either Frances or Eleanor)when she was still a toddler.

Liselotte never met Mary, but she took her duties as a godparent seriously.  After James II went into exile, she tried to talk to him about Mary, but her efforts to reconcile them ended in failure.

Sorry didn't have my maths hat on today! Did she correspond with Mary? I don't remember any letters in the Maria Kroll book - maybe they were destroyed?

Liselotte did not correspond with Mary.  The details are scanty at best, but it seems that Liselotte sometimes tried to defend or excuse Mary to James, and passed along occasional bits of news to him as well, such as the fact that Mary was glad he hadn't been killed at the Boyne.  Liselotte got her information from her Aunt Sophia, who was in touch with Mary.  There is no proof whatsoever that Mary asked Sophia and Liselotte to try to mediate her conflict with her father or pass along messages to him.  However, Mary destroyed most of her correspondence before she died, as did Sophia and Liselotte.  

Kroll's book is far from a complete collection of Liselotte's letters.  Point of fact, there is no such thing.   :(  It's my understanding that less than a third of Liselotte's extant letters have been published.

It's a shame they're not online. I've only been able to find short extracts and I returned the Kroll book to the library in 1976!  :(

Not me!

She had a "quiet" christening at St Michaels Church, Linlithgow.
