Liselotte was born in 1652, making her nine or ten when Mary II was born. The main qualification for being a godparent to a royal baby in those days was the ability to give an expensive gift to the baby, which Liselotte's father was more than able to do.
Liselotte never met Mary, but she took her duties as a godparent seriously. After James II went into exile, she tried to talk to him about Mary, but her efforts to reconcile them ended in failure.
