Children often in the upper classes, were only allowed to eat certain things back then, as it was thought healthy. This has little to do with a diet as we think of it, although I suppose it is a bit like healthy eating. Anyway, Sissi defintely had some emotional issues, but she also wanted to keep her very thin figure, from what I have read.

The English nannies who ran the nurseries of the upper class European royalty and nobility considered that eating uncooked fruit or vegetables was bad for their charges, who were thus generally given a bland diet - most food was boiled or stewed and everything was very plain; there were no rich sauces which was good, but no salads, which was not so good.  The child consequently rather tended towards constipation and as a result nannies had a rather morbid preoccupation with bowels and took the usual horrid methods to ensure that the food came out the other end by dosings of syrup of figs and prune juice, etc.

Yes, that is true, from what I have read.
