Yes! It's true! I was there also that night.... but the Dandinis didn't leave because of Tania's singing. Grand Duke's pet pug "Princess" had terrible gas!

It was the dog wasn't it?  ::)

Don't remember me bad things!  :P

I was flying to Spain in a current, normal fly of "Argentinian Airlines", (a commoner fly, of course!  :D), and there, I met Queen Sofia of Spain!!! She was flying in a common, Argentine fly just to show courtesy to our people. She has been visiting Argentina for some days.

When I noticed her, I was freezed in my seat, and the only thing I could do was to go near her to see her...Of course, she was surrounded by lots of people who went there just to take a glance of her. Some women and men, spoke directly to her without waiting to her to speak, that is the correct way to act when you are with royalty. I said anything to her, but I heard people's conversations with the Queen. She answered politely, with a sweet voice, all things these people asked to her, and never showed any boredom, nor negative feelings when she conversed fluently to them all.

She seemed to me a very sweet and simple lady,  real Queen of Spain.

What were the chances of the average Russian getting to rub elbows with the IF?  Did they partake in any special photo ops or tours like royalty does today?

How hard and what where the qualifications for getting a formal invitation to make the acquaintance of their Majesties?

I don't know about the Russian IF, but I've seen a picture or two of the Queen Mother and Elizabeth and Margaret in the street shopping or something when the princesses were little girls. People didn't even recognize them!

You're kidding?!  How could people not!  I'm American and I would recognize them.  They're very... distinct looking people.

No clue at all. I saw it somewhere on the Windsor board recently. If I come across it again I'll post a link, but it would mean wading through pages and pages so it'll take a while. ;)

Hmmmm, how could you meet royalty?

Well, for starters, My Uncle John meets LOTS of royals, but that's because he works at a "ritzy" hotel over in New York.  I mean, when Royals travel, they have to stay somewhere, haha.  Problem with those encounters is, they aren't very personal, because most royals wish to be left alone and it can be hard to wade through body guards.

But that's only for the big-wigs.  As far as royalty in general goes, you may have already met a few and didn't even know it!  Some of the more distant royal relatives don't live under such tight rules, because they are not well known.  Royals, just like us (of course), have aunts, uncles, cousins, half siblings, second and 3rd cousisns, nephiews, nieces, and all of those people have extended family too.  These people don't really make a very big deal out of themselves, either.

I myself accidently bumped into one, and if it wasn't for someone telling me about it, I never would have known!  My parents and I traveled to New York to visit with Uncle John and his wife.  We were staying at their place.  I came down to the hotel to ask uncle John when he gets off work (my mom wanted him to have dinner with us).  I see my uncle through the windows, at the desk.  He's on the phone and motions for me to wait outside for a minute.

As I'm standing there, I see a man comming out the front door, then stopping for a moment to make a call on his cell phone.  He had an accent that I couldn't place.  When he was finished, I called over to him, "Excuse me, do you know what time it is?"  He glanced down at his watch and called back, "Almost 5:30."  I thanked him and we stood there for a couple more minutes, talking (just casual chatter).  Then Uncle John called me inside and the man went on his way.

Once I was inside, my uncle asks, "So how was your first encounter with royalty?"  I stood there for a second, like...  :o"What??!"  Then my uncle says, "Yeah, you know the King of *****?"  (I can't remember the name of the country)  I was like, "Uh....Not really, but go ahead."  So my uncle says, "Well, that guy you were talking to is the son of the king's cousin."  I was like, "Ok, well, I'm glad I didn't say anything stupid!  Hehe."  And that was the end of it.

The point is, such encounters are far more common than you think.

;D

Has Anyone Met Up with Someone with Royalty or Famous?
« Reply #24 on: July 20, 2010, 10:31:16 AM »
Just wondering if any of our members have had any brushes with, or just real-life viewings, of Royalty, and how it went.  I myself saw Prince Andrew back in 1993 when he visited Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. I was working in Pembroke and quick got out to the cormer during my coffee break just as the Prince's car was passing by. As there weren't many people where I was standing I had a very clear view of him looking directly at me and smiling as he returned my wave.  It was very memorable and thrilling actually.

several.  My godmother is a princess and I spent a lot of time with her.  A few times with the Queen Mother.  When I lived in Canberra, a close friend was the Queen's press secretary and he took me to a working lunch they had.  Sandwiches, fruit and a long meeting, most of which I wasnt privy to. But I did get to meet her briefly,  She liked the fact that I was Canadian and Australian.  I have a few friends who are Romanoffs and a few who are Ottoman princes.

I saw Queen Elizabeth II once here in Ottawa.  I was standing by the road as she went by in her car.  It was great.

I "met" Princess Paola of Orleans and Bragança, when she came to my hometown; she's very beautiful and she's a DJ. I shall never forget it.

If anyone has met up with someone famous or of royalty please post here. With me I've met Dr. Kent Hovind (A famous Creationist Speaker) and Ray Comfort a evangelist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Comfort and got his autograph. :) But haven't met up with anyone with royalty.
