I'm thinking of a photo taken in the snow showing Olga and Alexei only; I believe it is from their period of captivity at Toblosk, and I seem to remember it being from Peter Kurth's Tsar or another fairly recent Romanov-oriented book rich in photographs.

Hi,

Are you thinking about a particular picture, or looking for any picture of them together? Only them on the pictures, or with their sisters, too? And are you looking for a precise time period? Like when they were small or when Olga was already a teenager?

If you can be more precise with that, I'm sure a lot of people can help you, including me.

I'm looking For that picture I mentioned, and any other ones are welcome too.. I am sure they are not captured yet. She is about on her teenage years,/ adult years - so the "older" Olga.

This is from 1910. I really like this one.

This is during exile in Tobolsk, so 1917/1918

Poor Alexei...In the last pic, he looks very grown up, for sure, but also not very healthy. You can read sickness in his face. And OLga seems sadened and depressed.

If I'm correct -- this is one of the last pictures taken of Olga and Alexei -- it was taken on the steamer "Rus" on the infamous journey from Tobolsk to Ekaterinberg that Olga, Tatiana, Anastasia and Alexei made.  Some people interpret Olga's intensely
depressed look to what supposedly happened to the GD's after Alexei and the other men in their party were locked in their
rooms at night and Sidney Gibbes heard the GD's screaming.  This was reported in "FOTR" and there are a couple of threads about what this possibly meant.

At the very least, the girls were traumatized in some manner.  I think this picture shows Olga's depression at this time very well.

Alexei also looks very ill -- remember he and all the girlies but Maria stayed back at Tobolsk to look after him as he was still so
ill he could not travel with Nicholas and Alexandra to Ekaterinberg.  He was still obviously weak and looks thin as a stick.

To me at least -- this is one of the very saddest images of the Romanovs -- it tells so much.

That is my favourite photograph of all time of anyone ever.  When I first saw it, it took my breath away.  It's not because Olga looks beautiful or because Alexei looks adorable, it's just the carefree nature of the whole thing; it's beautiful and captures a moment of lightness and joy so perfectly.  I love it.

Does anyone else find the pictures from Tobolsk really distressing? It's horrible to think they were being taken to their deaths, and to see how strained they were throughout the whole experience.  It makes me shudder to look at them.  It's like looking at photos of people on death row.

:o Was the photo I posted really taken on the Rus??? I had no idea!!! I thought it was just when they were in the Governer's House! I feel really bad now...
I know what you mean, Rachel. It is really distressing to look at the last photos of the family... to have the knowledge of what was going to befall them is just heartbreaking...
It makes me feel even worse that we British abandoned them in their darkest hour...

:( To be fair I don't think the King knew they would die. There's a thread about it somewhere.

Anyway, yes, that photo is on the Rus. It's the last known photo of them, although there is a reflection of Olga in the last picture of Tatiana and Anastasia.

Yes, Janet. You said it wonderfully.

The pic was taken at the "Rus" (I don't know exactly by whom) and shows very clearly all the suffering Alexei and Olga were enduring at the time.

However, this is not the saddest pic of them I ever seen. There is another one terribily depressing to me: the photo where Olga, some of her siblings (I can't recall if Tatiana and Alexei were there too, I must go check the fact) Gilliard and other retainers were dining together at the Governor's house in Tobolsk...In this pic, Olga looked thiner than a stick and was worse than in the pic at the "Rus". So sad...But for sure, Alexei looks tired and sick ...sicker than ever, at the picture at the "Rus".
