Pictures of Olga and Alexi

Yes, well... George V wasn't that thick to not realise that Lenin and the civil war might be a threat to their lives... Oh, well, I shouldn't judge him; he had his reasons - entirely selfish ones, but they are still just reasons.

Anyway, yes, that photo is on the Rus. It's the last known photo of them, although there is a reflection of Olga in the last picture of Tatiana and Anastasia.

Why is it these pictures always render my heart when I see Olga looking depressed and thin, Alexei looking so sickly and tired? Seriously, I take one look at them and it makes a lump form in my throat and that inevitable feeling in my eyes...

One wishes at these sad moments in the Romanov's, captured by a photograph, that one could jump into the moment and warn them of everything, but it would make no difference...

You're not being silly! I think it's just normal to feel this way, because we partly define ourselves with our people's actions, present and past, not only our owns. But this is why they teach history: to stop younger generations from repeating their ancesters mistakes...which has, unfortunately, only a limited success...

Let's concentrate on happier years, will ya? I mean, we all know that NAOTMAA had a terrible ending, but they were also great people with great lives. Look, I found those photos with Olga and Alexei:

The girls and Alexei at his christening, 1904. I just like the way Olga is looking at her new baby-brother. At already 8, she must have understood much better then the Little Pair what his birth meant for their family.


The children, 1906. Not specifically of O and A, but still nice to see. As a child, I used to hold my youngest brothers like this, often in family parties, at the table after dessert...


If anyone can find the whole picture, you'll see how funny Alexei and Olga look together! (1906).


Finally, I once saw a photo of Olga carrying Alexei on her back, but I don't have it. Anybody can help? Olga is wearing the same coat then on this photo with Tatiana. I think the two were shot in winter 1908-1909 but I'm not sure.


P.S. The colored photo I posted is not mine. I found it on  the Glint of Gold website, and I don't want to offend anybody for posting their art stuff! I'll be really sorry if it does, but please tell me anyway!

If I remember correctly, it is from left to right, Alexei, Maria, Tatiana, Olga and Anastasia.

About the first photo I posted: Olga is on the front, gazing at baby Alexei. Tatiana is right behind her. Maria is on the left, and Anastasia on the right. You'll notice that on these sets of pictures, the Big Pair is wearing bows in their hair, while the Little Pair is wearing headbands.

I'm sorry, Sarastasia! I printed the pic a long time ago, and now I just can't remember where to find it. That's why I asked!   However, if I find it, I promise I'll share it with you guys.

There is another one terribily depressing to me: the photo where Olga, some of her siblings (I can't recall if Tatiana and Alexei were there too, I must go check the fact) Gilliard and other retainers were dining together at the Governor's house in Tobolsk...In this pic, Olga looked thiner than a stick and was worse than in the pic at the "Rus". So sad...But for sure, Alexei looks tired and sick ...sicker than ever, at the picture at the "Rus".

Tatiana was the only one there.  It is a truly sad photograph, they all look so tired and changed.  But I'm with everyone else here, I like focusing on the happier times.

Alexei does indeed look like he is what age he realy is he was 13 in a half. But realy I think he looks 12.Tatiana she looks like she is realy tired from doing all that work. I can understand that I get tired like that sometimes. I mean Tatiana does have her hair down and is over sixteen. The picture was realy taken in 1917. People must have loved wearing boots and hats back then. It seemed popular at that time.

Bu that picture that I posted with I guess everyone is saying Tatiana doesn't look like it was taken in 1917 because her hair is down and Alexei is smaller.

That was taken around 1908 or 1909. And in Lanie's files, it's labeled as Olga....



The one Emily posted right after yours is Tatiana in 1917.
