Yeah and happy days. I just received my DVD set of the brilliant series, Edward the King. I have had the books for years and have always wanted to see the series. It was on TV, but that was the days before VHS etc and I lost out on watching it at home. It was kinda pricey, but from the review I have read it will be worth it. I can't wait to see the portrayal of Minnie, Alexandra and Nicholas!!

Hi Louise,

Sounds interesting to me, where did you buy it, Amazon? This DVD goes definitely on my wanting list, next to the War and Peace, coming out this autumn.
Do you happen to know or anyone else, if the old british series about Lord Mountbatten" is available on DVD?
If I can lay my hand on all these DVD's its gonna be a great winter.

Louise happy days and enjoy,

Anna

I bought it from Amazon. That would be really neat to see the old Mountbatten story again. I remember watching it and he talked about having Marie's photo with him all his life, and how Alexei did. It was very moving to watch.

Have to watch out for that one

Well, happy days for me too, I've just ordered Edward the King :D. I've found Mountbatten. The original title is
"Lord Mountbatten the Last Viceroy" my favorit actress Janet Suzman is playing "Edwina Mountbatten". Alas this series is not available on DVD  :(

Good for you. Janet Suzman is in it?? WOW!! I'll check it out.

BTW, the series Edward the King is more than I expected. It is almost flawless. I'm thinking of starting a new thread/topic on Prince Albert/Victoria as parents. It is truly remarkable that Bertie turned out to be such a fine outstanding king, and why the man didn't suffer from a breakdown is beyond me. I digress.

You will enjoy it.

Louise

P.S. The show I saw on Mountbatten was a documentary on his life. Lord Louis did the narrative etc. I thought you meant that one, but I will check out the one you mentioned.

Does anyone know the title to the documentary??

Oh sorry, I meant the mini series made for tv in 1986. It's about the period he was Viceroy of British India. I've seen it on tv, but can't remember much. Great names in it : Nigel Davenport -- Ian Richardson as Nehru--Michael Byrne.
It is said Edwina Mountbatten had an affair with Nehru?
Anyone heard of that?

I have, and that's what I thought this was about too. My mother in law is British and brought me back a color booklet on that show and its actors when she went for a visit home. I have never seen the show but I still have the book!

Hey, I just decided to bump this thread up to give my thoughts. I think I'm right in assuming that this is the 1975 series also called 'Edward the Seveth'.  ;)

I have this on VHS (couldn't afford DVD  ;D) and think it's absolutely perfect. Annette Crosby as Queen Victoria is wonderful, especially when it comes to Gladstone and Disraeli.  ;D From acting to historical detail to costumes, it's great and holds up brilliantly after 30 years. Only a few small mistakes - like how it portrays Lenchen as not wanting to marry Christian - but apart from that, wonderful!

A MUST have for anyone interested in QV and her family!!  :D A few Romanovs in it too!

Lieven, I agree with you (yet again)!  :-*

As far as I am concerned, it's a near perfect production, considering it was made 30 years ago (and I am FUSSY)!  The performances of Annette Crosbie, Timothy West, Helen Ryan and Felicity Kendal who play, respectively, QV, Bertie, Alix and Vicky are particularly brilliant, in my opinion.

Well worth the money.  The series was fairly cheap to buy in Australia on DVD, surprisingly...

Agreed. This is a wonderful miniseries; the production values are terrific and it remains entertaining, all these years later.
