In fighting for social justice, it is vital that the death penalty be abolished.

Well said, Ryan.  I found your story interesting because I too have sympathies that seem to clash with my interest in the Romanovs and other royalty.  Anyway, welcome both you and Princess Victoria to the Forum  ;)

Welcome Ryan and Rachel!

Ryan, that is a real heart warming story! People can be swayed by pity, and your a great example. It's true that Lenin did stray from his morals, but I think it's just because he wanted to create a better Russia for his family and people. Although, that won't stop me from hating his guts for killing innocent children; imperial or otherwise. If I could I would slap that man senseless and send a telegram telling the Bolsheviks telling them to escort the Imperials and all servants to the Russian border and get them on a boat to the US. But alas, we have to make the best of the world we were left with. Either way, welcome and happy Romanoving!

I have seen it countless times...what is said when out of power, goes right out the window when someone comes into power.

"Give my love to all who remember me."

Hello everyone. I am Spanish, my real name is Jorge, and I am elated for being part of this community so varied, rigorous and pleasant. I've been passionate about the history since I was little boy. This what I inherited from my maternal grandfather. It is a great pleasure for me to be here. Immense and warm greetings to you all.

Well, here goes! I hope that I am doing this right.

I have been reading the AP Time Machine and the Forum off and on for many years.

I actually registered last March, but this is my first posting.

Question: With so many topics and threads spanning so many years, how can anyone know if someone else posts new information on a topic that perhaps has not been active for some time?

One could spend a lifetime tracking everything down — even with the search option.

Any comments or advice?

Thanks!

Welcome Inok Nikolai!
I'm afraid it's the only way. Like you i had been reading the forum for ages before registring and still, i did not know everything there was on it.
Often newbies (i was the first do to it!) start a lot of new threads to makle question, but my advice is: wait for a queation to pop up in your mind. When it happens, first check in the search engine, and take some time to browse in the forum to see if you can find a thread where the topic is discussed. Then, if you don't, wonder if there's  already a thread where your question would be in the right place but hadn't been asked yet. If not again... well, you really should start a new topic ^^
Art least, this is the way I use, you could try to see if it's ok for you.
With the search engine, for exapmple, i was able not only to find a lot of infos i was searching for, but also so many others i hadn't asked yet!

Welcome again!

I've been following this forum for a while now and find it fascinating.

A little about me. I worked during high school as an electrician's apprentice and developed a fascination with architecure. I worked for my dad who did strictly up scale residential work in the So Cal Areas of San Marino, Beverly Hills, Pasadena. I was also a huge history buff growing up.

I did not follow through with becoming an electrician after watching my dad struggle through the down times and sought a job with more security, but it didn't kill my love of beautiful architecure.

I discovered this amazing site while looking up the various palaces on line. After perusing the site my history bug got to me and you all have awakened a strong interest in the entire history of the Russian Empire.

Thank you all for your contributions and I hope I may be able to add some along the way too.

Thanks to all forum members for all of the information, discussion and for all the pictures - thought I'd post a few I hadn't seen here (although I might've missed them while searching through the photo threads)

I'm Alianora (or Alia for short).  My screen name comes from my favorite royal of all time, Eleanor of Aquitaine - Alianora is a variation of Eleanor.  I'm also descended from Eleanor (through both her husbands, Louis VII of France and Henry II of England).  Of course, to paraphrase a well-known saying - "That and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee.". Same with my being a 4th cousin of Winston Churchill through his American mother.  My avatar is a colorized Victorian drawing of Eleanor.

I've been interested in royalty for as long as I can remember.  When I first told my mom about our royal ancestors, she laughed and reminded me of when I used the encyclopedias when I was 8 to write up a timeline of England's kings and queens.  I can't remember when I got interested in the Romanovs.  It seems like I've always known who Anastasia was, probably because I was 12 when Anna Anderson died.  I first read Nicholas and Alexandra when I was in my early teens, after seeing the movie, and was in college when the bones from the first grave were identified.

I've lurked around here for a while, butl just recently signed up.  Glad to be able to chat with people who share the same interests that I do.
