     Hi all!
My name is Mike and I'm a new user. I've "watched" for years. I'm a huge royalty fan, British royalty in particular. I've collected "Majesty" magazine for twenty-four years. I can still recall the excitement and fascination I felt when I bought my first book with a royal as a subject. It was on the late queen mother of England. I have to say I admire greatly the collective knowledge of this esteemed forum, and I look forward to contributing positively in my small way.

   Thanks again and hello! :D
 Mike D.

Thanks for officially joining Mike. I look forward to seeing your contributions!

Hello!

I've trolled this site for many years now (not in the real sense of an internet 'troll', thank goodness!), and I have registered on the forum just today. I've been somewhat of an 'outsider' in the Romanov community, but I would love to get involved!

Currently, I am studying history, classical civilisation, sociology and English literature and language. In the near future, I'll also be working towards an MA in decorative arts and historic interiors. I'm actually descended from one of the oldest aristocratic families in Britain, and have been fortunate enough to have been surrounded by beautiful stately homes my whole life, and it was when I was young that I developed a keen interest in antiques and interiors. It is thanks to my family heritage that this is my area of interest!

The Romanovs have always been a huge fascination of mine, and I've studied them for years. Naturally, my interest gravitated towards the interiors and design of their dwellings, transport and other buildings. I am currently in the early stages of writing a book, dedicated solely on the interiors of Alexander Palace, which may be in a couple of different volumes. This is a fairly new project, but having studied historic interiors for a long time now, as well as accumulating a vast collection of reference material, the wheels are most definitely in motion. The biggest obstacle will, of course, be copyrights. Funding this book is not cheap, especially purchasing material to study, including books and documents, some of them original. Contemporary sources are also expensive to own, but hopefully my hard work will all pay off.

Anyway, you can expect to hear from me a lot more in the future! I very much look forward to getting involved in these discussions, and keep an eye out for the announcement of my book, which will be made closer to the publication date!

Hi, franofhistory!

Welcome to the forum, and I'm glad your days of trollery have ended. I think you'll enjoy it here and the participation of an educated person with some seriously neat fields  of study won't hurt us either.

Go for it!

Rodney

Hullo from Texas, all.  I'm a lifelong Russophile, and developed an interest in the Romanov family about halfway into my life, about 16-17 years ago.  I've come across this forum many times in my searches, and have perused alexanderpalace.org quite a lot.  So after several years...I decided to take the plunge and register.  :)  I do keep up with Ms. Azar's project of Olga's diaries on Facebook, and follow/post there pretty often.

I don't have half the photo-identification skills/knowledge of most people here, so I'll keep quiet, for the most part, and learn.

I'm in my early 30s & just now nearing completion of my bachelor's degree in English, with a minor in history.  I love all things Celtic, Russian, and Oriental, animals, anything medieval or Renaissance, most music, have an addiction to scents, and love to write - when, of course, the muse descends, which is rare.

I'm currently working, in my "spare time", on an organized "archive" of Romanov photos by date, location, etc., but if/when I'm finally satisfied with it, would love to post online for anyone to reference.

So these are some of the fascinating facts of my life, which, unfortunately, aren't really that fascinating at all.

Welcome to our board.

Thank you, both!

Tim, I'm attempting to reply to your PM, but I'm getting the error message "did not type the letters as shown", but there's no Captcha on screen. I'll try to get it to work later, but I didn't want you to think I was ignoring the message.  :)

New Users can't use PMs until they have three posts.  It's a security measure to make sure users are legit.

Oh my!  This is going to be a learning experience for me.  By way of introduction, let me just say I had to hit the reply button to post anything.  LOL!   I am technologically challenged in that regard.  To further the intro, I am a retired teacher of "social studies" (more like history) and English---and a lover of both.  I was born into a very different and very poor family who did not appreciate "books."  I found books exciting, and books opened up new vistas I couldn't visit due to my socio-economic status.  I read most of Shakespeare by the time I was ten.  (Come to find out later De Vere was one of my great grandfathers.  There is some evidence and a claim on the official Shakespeare site that state De Vere and Shakespeare were the same.)  Due to the fact that many royal "second born" children came to America in the 1600s and so on, I am related to most royalty in most countries (except Asia) -- that includes the Romanovs (confirmed via my dad's DNA).  Another of my great grandfathers -- Lord Ferdinando Fairfax -- had a daughter, Lady Francis Fairfax, who married a Widdrington, and their son, Samuel, came to America to start one of my lines, but there are so many others.  I have traced my lines back to 750 BC at this time.

All of that, while notable in a historical sense and perspective of "roots," means little in America, and it meant nothing to my father who died last year of Alzheimer's.  I was able to tell him from whence he came before his mind completely went, but it still meant nothing to him.  He was raised prior to/and during the Great Depression and had little book-learning.  However, I have always been different.  I believe a person's DNA is a strong bond to what I call "ancestral memory."  From a young age I had a thirst for learning about the French, the Russians, the Vikings, and so on.  This was not given to me by my parents; it was encoded into my DNA.  It has only been in the last five years that I discovered my ancestors who had lived before the 1800s (except for a French Huguenot I always knew about because of my grandmother), and again, that is not unique.  I am sure there are many who connect to the various Dynasties.  DNA simply supports the paper trail.

My name -- "Duchess Room 311" -- was bestowed upon me by a cab driver after he heard some of my history and ancestry.  I was visiting my daughter and staying at a hotel.  I look forward to learning and possibly sharing (as soon as I figure out how to make a post without hitting the reply button!).  Hope I wasn't too long-winded.
