One more compiled picture.

And a close -up of Maria Fedorovna. Do you believe this is Maria Fedorovna  ? Never seen such like this.

Yes, I think so. It fits a photo of her taken at the same time--same dress and hair. There was an individual sitting and one with Sasha.

Not from the same sitting, but MF looks a bit like the picture Svetabel posted with her curls!

gorgeous photo!   i've never seen it before, either.

btw, is it just me, or does MF look, well...sorta pregnant?    i mean, she's usually got a relatively tiny waist (rather like her sister, Alexandra).......but in this photo, she looks somewhat thicker around the middle & her face seems kinda fleshy (she's still looks wonderful...).    i have taken into account the cut of the dress, the angle/position of her body & the material etc, but i still think she looks pregnant.

any date for the photograph?

Well, I thought the same about MF's appearance, dress and waist. Judging by the style of her dress that is might be 1868-1869 years.

That has been my absolute most favourite Romanov picture ever since I saw it in the book "Tsar". It was so small in there, though, and for years I searched everywhere for it, myself, without any luck. But when I finally found it, I framed it and have it hanging on my wall. I agree, it is extremely romantic, and of course it was posed. I wonder who thought of it? And did all of the subjects in the photo end up with a copy of their own? ;)

These women and men are the relatives of the Romanovs. They might be the Leuchhtenbergs, the Oldenbourgs and the Mecklenbourg-Strelitzes (children of GDss Elena Pavlovna - she is seen at the bottom of the pic. Her spouse Duke Georg is in the background, behind 2 women).

I identified a girl sitting at the piano (at right). This is princess Elena Georgievna of Mecklenbourg-Strelitz, granddaughter of GDss Elena Pavlovna.
Her picture (in later years)

Hi Madal!
The picture was taken (if not mistaken) on April 27th, 1906 when Tsar Nicholas II was delivering the Throne Speech at the opening of the State Duma in the Saint George[ch8217]s Hall of the Winter Palace, St. Petersburg.

The full image of this is here:

On RomanovRussia.com they split and enlarged parts of the photo. Here is the rest of the photo -

Here is Alix and the crowd around her. Who consisits of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna (left) and Empress Maria Feodorovna with Xenia and Olga

Below is Nicholas Nikolaevich, Vladimir Alexandrovich, Constantine Constantinovich, Alexei Alexandrovich.

The woman with the white hair & opera glasses in the upper left corner, is she GD Aleksandra Iosifovna?

I'd never seen this photo from this angle:

Coburg, 1894
(from Nikolai II, by Bokhanov)

If I remember correctly, there were about 5 poses of the group shot; about 3 of the smaller group with QV/Vicky/Willy/EVII/Duke of Connaught and several smaller ones like Wilhelm II on his own and the engagement ones of N&A. The photographers had quite the busy day.  :)

A few weeks ago I visited Darmstadt and Coburg. This photo was made in the back-yard of the Duke of Edinburgh's ( Victoria Melita's dad) house, located opposite Palace Ehrenburg. I sat on those very same steps and even looked through the windows for which the family stood, inside hangs a different photo of the family posing on the steps.  Although nowadays a department of Industry and Commerce is housed in the building. the sun-room with the steps look exactly the same, decorations etc. as it did on the photo's in 1894.

.

Of course Sergei and for one of those theatricals so loved by the Romanovs... :)
.

Sergei Aleksandrovich (back row, center),
Pavel Aleksandrovich (to his right / to our left),
Elizaveta Feodorovna (center row, center -- directly in front of Sergei)
a young (and future) Nikolai II (front row, to the right of center, in front of Ella)
and others

(unfortunately, i don't know the date or anything about the occasion...
but due to their virtually identical costumes / fancy dress, i wonder
if it might be a photo of the participants in one of those "organized" type
of dances that were often "performed" at the beginning, and/or during,
a ball (the quadrille & the polonaise are
examples of what i mean).

That was 1888-1889 year, a theatrical in the Sergievskiy Palace (Sergei's palace in St Petersbourg).
BTW, behind Ella and near Sergei (at left from him) is Princess Elena of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, daughter of GDss Ekaterina Mikhailovna.
