R u sure it was Irina Narshkina? In Mathilda K autobiography "Dancing in St Petersburg", she writes about stunningly beautiful Irina Lazarev, sister of Vladimir Lazarev and first cousin of Felix yussupov who married Count II Vorontsov-Dashkov. I believe he died in 1919 of typhus during the civil war.

Countess Elizabeth was a great heiress to vorontzov wealth. After her brother Prince Micheal Vorontzov -Count Shuvalov died in 1903, all the vast estates of Serene Princes Vorontzov were divided between her and her sister Catherine Balashov. Catherine Balashov inherited 1,70,000 desyatins of land (dominic lieven). Elizabeth inherited the famous Alupka palace in Crimea and other palaces. She is also great grandmother of Sir Dimitry Obolensky.

A desyatina is an Imperial Russian mesurement of land equal to 2.7 acres. Therefore 170000 desyatini of land would equal 459000 acres. In 1924, the Soviet Union dropped the Imperial system of weights and measures and adopted the Metric system.

Prince Michael Vorontzov - Count Shuvalov owned 4,21,461 desyatins of land. He was the seventh largest landowner in russia. His brother in law Count II Vorontzov-Dashkov owned 2,98,000 desyatins of land and was the 14th largest landowner in Russia. The second brother in law NP Balashov (husband of Catherine Balashov) was on the fifth position with 5,21,838 desyatins. Prince Micheal's cousin Count Paul Shuvalov (Betzy Shuvalov's husband) owned 5,37,030 desyatins and was on fourth position after Stroganovs, Abamelek-Lazarevs and Demidovs. ( From Dominic Lieven's Aristocracy in Europe)

Irina Vassilievna Narishkina was born in Lausanne on17/5/1879 the daughter of Vassily Lvovitch and his wife Fevronia( nee Princess Orbeliani ).After her marriage to "Larry" Vorontzov-Dashkov ended she married Prince Serge Alexanderovitch Doulgoruky(1872-1933).The couple had one daughter Olga born 1915.The family must have been among the small entourage who slipped out of Kiev with the Dowager Empress.Very soon after their arrival in Yalta, on 26/5/1917 a very few days after her childs 2nd birthday.Irina commited suicide at her mother-in-law's estate Mishkor

Sorry, i just checked my info. I got a little confused. Irina Lazarev married Count Illarion Ivanovitch Vorontzov-Dashkov (1893-1920). It is he who died of typhus during the civil war. He must be the first cousin of the person you mentioned.

There was also a Countess Irina Illarionovna Vorontsov-Dashkov she was the daughter of Count Illarion Ivanovich Vorontsov-Dashkov and Countess Elizabeth Shuvalov. She married to Count Dimitri Sergheevich Sheremetev and had issue, among them; Countess Praskovia Dmitrievna Sheremetev who married to HH Prince Roman Petrovich of Russia. I wonder to wich branche of the Vorontsov-Dashkov she belongs.

lancashireladandre, i didn't notice until now that you continued this discussion over here. Thank you for the great information on the tragic Irina Dolgoruky. It seems so sad that she ended her life when her daughter was so young.

Quick question, you mentioned a nurse named Miss New in the other thread. Was she the same as Miss Radkins (Ritkin?), another nurse/maid I have seen listed on the Marlborough. I am assuming she was also little Olga Dogoruky's nurse.

Thanks again!

Don't know anything about a Miss Radkins. The Misses New & King were the governesses to the Doulgoruky grandaughters. They stayed with them for many years during the nomadic wanderings of Princess Olga Petrovna as did her maid Louise.Princess Irina's funeral which was attended by the Dowager Empress and Grand Duchess Xenia is mentioned in some detail in Albert Stopfords book.

Was Miss New on the Marlborough or did she join the family later? Did Sofka and Olga basically live with their grandmother after they left Russia? I am hoping to buy a copy of Sofka's book. I find the life of the Romanovs in the Crimea during those final years very fascinating. They had births, deaths, and marriages while living there.

Thanks again!

What is this book about? I have never heard of it.

I was looking through Grand Duchess Olga's biography and she mentions that Lili was a close friend of her mothers and also was a great gossip. She also mentions that she was also very friendly with Lili's daughter Sandra.

Where Lili Vorontsov-Dashkov and Olga Dolgoruky cousins. I thought they were sisters until I noticed Lili's patronym was Andreevna while Olga's was Petrovna.

Thanks again!
