The Danish royals & the protests
« on: February 13, 2006, 08:37:47 PM »
Does anybody know about what is going with the queen & her family, in light of the anti-Denmark protests in the middle east in the wake of the cartoon portraying Mohammed? Does anybody know if the chaos has spread to Denmark, or if Her Majesty has issued a statement about the goings on?

I could be wrong, but I would think that the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family of Denmark will be staying as far away from this controversy as possible and I don't see why the Queen would make any statement on it.  ???

As I said, though, I could be wrong... ;)

Don't expect QM II to produce any statement, would be like sitting in the middle of an ants nest, but foremost it would be mingling with politics directly and HM will wisely refrain from that.Allthough she might sooner or later refer to the use/abuse of freedom of speech and respect,or lack thereoff,in general.

I was just wondering if she would say something along the lines that they regret about what's going on.

What do you mean, Romanov_Fan19?

As far as I know, this has nothing to do with the monarchy.  ???

As to Eric's comment - I think the situation has already gone far past being "reasonable".

With complicated issues involved, I'd steer clear if I was the monarch. If you condemn just the violence, you'll anger people. If you condemn the pictures, you'll anger people. If you try to condemn both, you'll probably get slammed by both sides for somehow equating the two. Unless you can come up with a really bland statement (which would probably end up pleasing no one anyway) best to stay away. It's easier for the leaders of other countries who aren't directly involved, I think it's too hot for the Danish monarch.  :-/

Daisy knows exactly what her role is as Queen, so if and when she does make a statement, I am confident she will handle it in the most appropriate way.

I don't think that the Queen will make statement on this for the moment, but perhaps in her new years speech, if things have worked out by then. This is a political crisis dealt with by the Danish government, and has nothing to do with the Queen for now. I think she will keep her thougts about the situation to the immediate friends and family.
The other day I heard a demonstrater say that he wanted the King of Denmark to take action in this matter, but I don't think that will happend for many reasons.  ;D
