when I was about 8 I strongly believed that Anastasia had escaped. now I clearly realize that nobody escaped. of course we can dream about the situation "if.." but we know the fact and it's rather senselessly  to discuss it. and it's logically that if someone escaped he or she would have run abroad and die there as all their escaped relatives. There couldnt have been a rebirth of Monarchy.

It would be interesting to know the opinions of Russia citizens during the Soviet period to this story which has exercised western Europe and the US for almost a century.

yes I lived in Russia but Im only 16 and when I was born, as you know, The SSSR messed up. in 1991.

I think one person even said that one Grand duchess sat up from a stretcher and "cried out" before she was attacked by bayonets.
I think there is a chance of someone escaping, though I do not believe AA was Anastasia. I severely doubt Alexei would have escaped and think that his body was cremated or destroyed in other ways.  I find it hard for anyone to escape that brutal cellar since the Bolsheviks had guns and bayonets and everything they needed for murder. But then a body of a girl (Marie or Anastasia) is missing, and there is a chance of one of them escaping...
Like Annie i think one of them feigned to be dead or became unconcsious (sp?) and then some how fell out or escaped the truck where they put all the bodies on top of each other when no one was looking.

Wait a minute, just want to clarify when me, Annie posted something like that at the start of this thread it was hypothetical for the sake of 'if' as the thread stated.  I do not believe anyone escaped.

Me neither, but we cannot rule out completely that there is a slight chance (5% versus 95%) that someone may have escaped from that cellar alive; as long as we do not find the bodies of Aleksei and the missing grand princess (probably Anastasia Nikolaevna).

I have a question. Does anyone of you have Anna Anderson's testemony? How does she say "she" escaped? I'm so corious to hear her story, because it's known that she had several mental problems. I remember a friend telling me that she claims to have gotten away preagnant...and she left her child somewhere in Bucharest. I'm really confused when it comes to this matter. So pleas help me understand this woman better. thanks so much

Oh, and one more thing...I'm sure that in all her crazyness,she really got to a point where she started to believe that she was indeed tha GD Anastasia. So it's hard to judge her...because none of us knows what was inside her head...right?
