Here's a scan. It makes her look a bit severe perhaps.

That's an ugly painting. Although I'm not british, I think it's a disrespectful painting of the Queen.

I agree and I have to say I wouldn't have the good manners of Cambria Coheed either - this is just ugly and unflattering and I wouldn't hesitate to tell the artist, given the chance!

It's certainly not intended to be disrespectful, he likes and admires the Queen; but he has his own peculiar way of looking at things, and particularly of painting flesh! Although I like the painting of the hair and crown, but I would agree in not liking this as a portrait, because it so it so conflicts with the way in which I would imagine the subject. Intreresting though.

Does the QEII wear a new dress each year or does she have a standard "Parliment" dress for the opening of Parliment?

There's a long history of different dresses. They tend to be white or cream with sometimes gold lace or pearl braids. This goes well with the imperial state crown and the robe of state.

That's true.  There does almost seem to be a formula for these dresses.  Often beaded and embroidered, they are generally white or off-white.

I seem to recall that there was at least one on display at BP the other year in the exhibition of the Queen's dresses; compared to the detail and workmanship of the Hartnell and Amies gowns, these modern dresses compare poorly but are nonetheless composed of expensive materials.

The Queen's figure is of course more matronly now than when she was first monarch. It's a touch more difficult to design a flattering dress now.

Well Oprah Winfrey seems to be able to pull it off even when she is at her heaviest.

If Oprah Winfrey continues to lament her size or have any more 'weight loss' shows, I think I will scream!

The Queen has gained weight as she's got older but not a huge amount.  Her inclusion in the Vogue most glamorous list should prove that to look good, one doesn't have to be young and/or stick thin.
