Of course you're right, TB - sorry - I wasn't having a go at you, but Oprah does rather treat losing weight like rocket science, what?!

Anyway, Her Maj has never looked better, has she, nor happier, in my opinion.

The Queen's figure is of course more matronly now than when she was first monarch. It's a touch more difficult to design a flattering dress now.

That is quite true.

Her evening dresses have a basic shape that is often repeated and rely on beaded and embroidered fabrics for their sumptuous effect.  These fabrics are very expensive and quite probably are a substitution for the hand beading and embroidery that one fiinds on the Queen's formal gowns of yore (the latter techniques being incredibly expensive to execute these days).

That portrait looks ugly. It is not nice what their doing it is such a opprobrious disgrace to the Queen. I think he rushed on the painting instead of taking time to do it. People did much better than that with her previous paintings. That was such a messy and careless job. Hopefully there will be better.

Does the QEII wear a new dress each year or does she have a standard "Parliment" dress for the opening of Parliment?

TampaBay

Depends of the tablecloth at hand.Really, evening wear and occasions like today always see a variety of whites only,a sort of 21st century "Virgin Queen",I dubbed her "Tablecloth Lily" years ago, with all due respect ofcourse,as she still is a formidable and admirable octaginarian, but except for her surprising and often absolutely great daywear,a fashion disaster at evenings.Tasteless.

May She long reign!
Interesting that Prince Charles worries about dying before he inherits the throne....

Yes it is a very interesting piece indeed. Thank goodness The Queen and Prince Philip are both in robust good health. Long may she reign.

Hopefully, yes, although recent reports were that Philip has a heart condition for which he is receiving treatment.  Not that unusual for a man of 86, I suppose...

They will both receive the best possible medical care. The late Queen Mother did as well.

This is a nice piece;

Thanks for that link Kim.

What a fascinating piece, offering some great insights into the relationship between the Queen and her husband.  I rather like the Queen's euphemism for infidelity - ' a man who takes a lot of amusing'.......typical of her pragmatism.

Quite insightful as well about the realtionship between the POW, his wife and his parents.......worth a look.....

I was a little disappointed to read that Camilla is still not particularly welcomed by HM.    The relaxation, so obvious in both in the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and their oldest son since his relationship with Camilla was regularised, indicated to me a warmth which this article denies.

Thanks again Lucien for your pics - of which please take note of Photograph 10 on the BBC website.

I don't think I have ever before heard the National Anthem sung with such gusto and genuine feeling.

Even if the relationship is still strange, a relaxation could still be there merely be the fact that the unclear status of the relationship is no longer. The Queen must've felt some relief (if not joy) that the situation would be resolved in some fashion and not just 'out there' in limbo land.
